About this deal

First, let's talk about A/B tests with VE Monk+ and Blessing 2. The story is similar to the low-impedance, high-sensitivity IEMs. S9 Pro sounds noticeably more contrasty and crisp, airier and micro-detailed with a stronger sense of depth compared to the Apple dongle. These differences can be heard clearly from the bass drop from around 0:35.

The S9 Pro Plus pairs pretty well with Hidizs own MP145 Planar, it gives the MP145 sense of even more details without sounding harsh and it does improve the decay of the MP145 to be more natural. At the same time, however, a more prominent treble enhances the sharper transients exclusive to horn sections. Staging & Dynamics As I said, this price I find reasonable as the S9 Pro is still around 80€ here at the time of putting this review together. The DAC chip does remain the same on the new version but there have been changes to the implementation that we will discuss throughout the review. One thing to note from the new specs is that output power is actually shown differently, promising 100mW + 100mW from its SE output (@ 32 Ohms) and 180mW + 180mW from its BAL output (again at 32 Ohms).Fixed the volume control bug: touching the button when the interface is about to disappear may cause the volume to continuously adjust. Let’s analyze the sound of it! A great ESS9038Q2M chip that was previously tested on the F.Audio KS01 is present on board. This has a natural, balanced, and analytical nature, just like other ESSs I own. Unlike the dacs with Cirrus, which sound more warmer there is no emphasis. As a wireless tablet, it is necessary to connect a USB Type-C cable with a suitable connector for the source you wish to use at the other end. I started testing with my Sennheiser HD-650 high impedance headphone using unbalanced output. There was enough power to generate good volume. Everything was right with the sound with great fidelity, detail, and overall performance.

In the upper range, Hidizs has a behaviour that combines control, resolution and sparkle. Tempotec is quieter, with a slightly lower energy, but not as clean. The Hidizs is perceived as more loose and in noisier environments seems to reflect a more controlled, polished and resolute character, generating a more musical and less intricate response than the Tempotec. As briefly alluded to earlier, punchier mid-bass bumps and energetic treble peaks are slightly enhanced for an excitable juxtaposition between both elements in the FR. Weighing only at 17g, it is very lightweight, but feels premium at the same time thanks to its glass and aluminum construction. Nevertheless, to briefly surmise: the S9 Pro is an excitable DAC/Amp that tastefully accentuates the “striking section” within the FR: the mid-bass and upper midrange. By now, many of their headphones were offered with a 4.4mm termination, so it was right to also offer a DAC to pair with them. There’s definitely power on both ends; you can easily run any IEM or headphones on it. The MP145s pair perfectly, and you have all the power you need. The Letshourer S12Pro also runs perfectly. The Hifiman HE400SE reaches very interesting volumes if you consider that you are using a dongle.Upper side, gone is the small and obsolete 2.5mm port, now Hidizs is also using a 4.4mm pentaconn balanced connector with the S9 Pro Plus Martha, FINALLY HIDIZS... It goes without saying that these filters also exist in other devices and are specific to the ESS DAC. Although I must confess that their impact on the sound is imperceptible to yours truly. When I talk about the "sound" of a source, I talk about its impact on the sound of headphones or earphones connected to it. For example, a source is "bright" means it makes earphones brighter than other sources. There is nothing really to explain as far as functionality. You plug the USB cable between the S9 Pro and the device you want to connect it to and that’s it, off you go.

What we do get is volume control, 6 filters to choose from and a 4.4mm output to replace the 2.5mm. All of these are improvements, while the price stays basically the same as the old model. What stands out is a touch of warmth in the overall sound; in the first two mentioned, the sound is slightly brighter and perhaps even more neutral. I must say that I also liked the Hidizs implementation on S9 Pro, so I find it an added value. Improvements from sources are primarily minor and nuanced, despite my textual descriptions. If you are beginning your head-fi journey, getting different IEMs or earphones would yield more benefits. If you know your gears very well, improvements from sources can be delightful I have tested the Hidizs S9 Pro with my Etymotic ER49, Hidizs MS2 and Sennheiser Momentum over-ear.I like the S9 Pro, it meets my criteria and does exactly what I wanted it to, but I am not in love with it. Without going into sound preferences, basically I just wanted something as clean and detailed as possible, while being as small and compact as possible. I also wanted something that I could plug into my DAP to be able to have the same sound reference without being tied to my phone or tablet, more on that in a moment. During operation, it should be noted that the body, especially on the glazed sides, becomes a little warm, especially when the volume is increased. In a low voltage regime the temperature is not bothersome. But taken to the limit, as when I took the measurements, i.e. at full power, the heat reached by the device is high, even worrying. I assume that, even so, it is within the "normal" operating range, without suffering any damage. These filter effects provide you with a wide range of sound profiles to suit your preferences. Here's a breakdown of these seven filter effects: I’m excited about this one folks, and I’ll do my absolute best to relay what I think of the S9 Pro Plus so to hopefully help you, the reader to make a purchasing decision. Before I do, I want to extend a big thank you to Hidizs for providing the Hidizs S9 Pro Plus in exchange for a full honest review and feature at Mobileaudiophile.com. With all that said, let’s jump into this one… The Hidizs S9 Pro Plus…

Despite its compact size, the S9 Pro Plus delivers remarkable power. With 138mW+138mW at 32Ω through the 3.5mm single-ended output and 180mW+180mW at 32Ω through the 4.4mm balanced output, it effortlessly drives a wide range of headphones, from IEMs to planar headphones. SHIO has more weight and accent on its bass and lower midrange, with more relaxed treble presentation that just sounds smooth and liquidy.

Average IEM and earphones

The rendition of the sound is same like its midrange, it demands attention and very lively, “here, listen to this cymbal, crashes and hi hat !” This is the strong point of the S9 Pro, it is a very powerful device for its size. Ok, 200mW balanced and 100mW unbalanced might not seem like a lot when we are used to talking about desktop (or larger portable, battery powered) devices but it is the difference between being able to enjoy the sound from headphones and certain IEMs on something this small or not, as the case may be with something like the Apple option (which I believe is around 30mW). One DiversityNames are important and as it turns out, Martha is a dope name. The naming of Martha represents a reminder to the fact that we are “one diversity” and to cherish “nature” & “life”. Those were Hidizs words. I’d say that’s an honorable sentiment and one I’m sure we could all get behind. At least Hidizs put some reflective and virtuous distinction unto the personality of this brand-new device. With that all said, perhaps I went a bit long on that breakdown? Hey… Now you know. At lower volumes (25% of my Samsung S21), the S9 PRO Copper Limited Edition displays an excellent dynamic range, capturing subtle changes and gradual transitions between silent and loud passages of music at low volumes. The S9 PRO Copper Limited Edition comes in a professional cardboard box with an image of the S9 Pro Copper Edition adorning the top lid with a glossy finish.
