About this deal

Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first “novel” when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths’ exercise books as she grew up. Since having her daughter, Emma, she has been writing full time. The Double Act is about ten year old identical twins Ruby and Garnet who are exactly the same! Or are they? They look the same, act the same and weigh the same and yet their personalities are very different. Ruby is funny and outgoing whilst Garnet is studious, sensitive and shy. These differences soon become apparent in various hilarious circumstances. She couldn't take the hint though. She chatted away to us, nattering on about telly programmes and pop records and stuff, as if she'd known us years and years. And she kept trying to remember which of us was which. 'Now, you're Garnet, right?' she said to me. 'And you're Ruby,' she said to Garnet. 'Yes,' we said. 'Right.' 'Wrong,' said Dad, laughing uneasily. 'That's Ruby. And that's Garnet. They're a pair of jokers. Even Gran and I get confused at times.' 'Speak for yourself,' Gran said huffily. 'I'm sorry the beef was so dry. Though it would have been just cooked through a treat an hour or so ago. Anyway. Apple pie and cream? Help me clear the plates, girls.' We helped her clear and when we came 26 Ruby was born twenty minutes before Garnet. She says that makes her the boss. She certainly bosses Garnet around! The twins look absolutely identical but they’ve got very different personalities. Ruby is very bouncy and funny and a terrible show off. She’s desperate to be an actress when she grows up. Garnet absolutely detests the idea of acting. She’s a very quiet shy girl, imaginative and hard working. Not because they are telling jokes as such but situations, off-hand comments, and misunderstandings. All classic components of comedy. I also think both are retired; there’s a weight off their shoulders where they can enjoy their time and each other. But, a double-act they are, whether they like it or not. Not that anyone apart from myself and my sister would find them as funny. You may even be similar to them. Especially if you choose to get a blood test at a hospital further away to “make a day of it.” And yes, they did ask me if I wanted to go with them. And yes, I am! By the way, I’m writing this on Valentine’s Day while wiping the tears on my corduroys. The novel begins with the twins’ parents, who are constantly fighting and eventually decide to split up. Ruby and Garnet are devastated by the news, and they must adjust to living in two different homes and attending different schools.Ruby doesn’t like to cry. Use this as a starting point for discussions about why people do cry. How does it affect them? How can others help those who are crying? Ficarra e Picone candidati ai Nastri d'Argento". A lot of people loved Double Act by Jacqueline Wilson. Regarded by many as being one of her better written titles, it's still popular nearly twenty years after it was first published. Garnet can’t reject Fame just because of that one unfortunate experience being a sheep when we were little. Indian cinema also had its share of the double act, with Tamil cinema comedians Goundamani and Senthil teaming up for several films throughout the decade, similarly Kota Srinivasa Rao and Babu Mohan in Telugu cinema.

Enrico Deregibus (8 October 2010). Dizionario completo della Canzone Italiana. Giunti Editore, 2010. ISBN 978-8809756250. I asked Dad what had happened to the story and he said it wasn’t a proper book at all. Accounts are sums. You add up everything you’ve bought. That’s keeping accounts. Read the Play Edition of the book and use it as a starting point for work on play scripts. Could the children perform the play? It’s the building on these traditions which makes double-acts in children’s graphic novels work for a different audience. Notably a younger one, which is arguably more accepting of difference and has a more modern outlook. Bumble and Snug also does this with gender too. Bumble (she) and Snug (he). More often than not, comedy duos are the same gender. In recent years there has been James Corden/Ruth Jones, and even more recently Daisy May Cooper/Charlie Cooper. But here we have creators/writers/actors of sitcoms. Not quite the same as performers like Morecambe and Wise, French and Saunders, or Mitchell and Webb… Adult audiences might “expect” the rules, but children have no concept of them, and maybe we have a responsibility to make sure they never do… Humor is often derived from the uneven relationship between two partners, usually of the same gender, age, ethnic origin, and profession but drastically different in terms of personality or behavior; each one serves as a foil to the other. One member of the duo—the " straight man", "feed", "dead wood", or stooge—is often portrayed as reasonable and serious, while the other one—the funny man, "banana man", or comic—is portrayed as funny, less educated or less intelligent, silly, or unorthodox. [ citation needed] When the audience identifies primarily with one character, the other is often referred to as a comic foil. The term "feed" comes from the way a straight man sets up jokes and then "feeds" them to his partner. [ citation needed] This article needs additional citations for verification. Phase one of the plan is an immediate success, as Richard is made redundant because of the ridiculous clothing Rose bought him, which no doubt alerted the rest of the office loud and clear that this man was going through a mid-life crisis.I haven’t told.
