About this deal

If you are planning to plant the tree away from your home, we would suggest purchasing a sapling as opposed to a seed to plant with the bio urn so that the initial care is taken care of and you are not required to water the new seed daily, this will help ensure a strong tree is grown. In this episode of our COP26 series, Chris (@donohohoho) talks to Prof. Louise Horsfall (@lehorsfall), Chair of Sustainable Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh, about her experience attending COP26 in Glasgow. We get to hear about her experience as a scientist hearing the sometimes conflicting ideas of politicians and companies. Prof. Horsfall also talks about how her lab uses engineered microbes to recycle metals from battery waste. The sustainable growing systems by Interstellar Lab aim to better life on Earth, allowing durable farming while preserving its biodiversity, and then prepare humanity to settle on other planets. The work is a fusion of architecture, agronomy, engineering, product design, and life-sciences. And, as such, it demands a highly skilled team. Installed in Ivry-Sur-Seine, the French-American startup has harnessed talents and expertise from NASA, Space X, Trimble, Airbus, and Dassault Systemes, including scientists, engineers, and architects like Jim Rhoné. It's got a UVB CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) which replicates the sun's natural output, and the LED light panel gives off the same colour temp and high PAR value (whatever that is when it's at home) of the natural sunlight spectrum. In 2014, she cofounded Hardware Club, an investment firm dedicated to physical, connected products and robotics. Now, she’s realizing her childhood fantasies as the founder and CEO of Interstellar Lab—which has set itself the ambitious goal of building inflatable pods that can support life on other planets. “I had to learn a lot about aerospace, life support, agriculture, and architecture to start this one,” she says.

Interstellar Lab finalized its first BioPod design phase in early 2022, and Dassault Systemes tools were vital to aiding creatives and engineers in realizing its design for manufacturing and assembly in a very short time. The first 1:1 BioPod was completed in September 2022, and now in test and experimentation phase for Earth applications. As data is progressively gathered from all sensors used to monitor BioPod behaviours and parameters, simulations will be refined and made even more accurate, so that future iterations can be easily expanded on the platform. The self-sustainable BioPod does not feel like a moonshot anymore; it is now a reality. The overall results indicate environmental benefits and climate change mitigation when the selected vegetables are cucumbers, tomatoes or lettuce. Economic assessment

In the long term, it hopes to make its BioPods part of a self-sustaining habitat on the moon or Mars: Chambers growing plants will be linked to similar pods housing living quarters and waste-processing facilities, joined by a central connector. But before that—after proofs of concept in the Mojave Desert—Interstellar Lab needs to figure out how to make its technology light and resilient and reliable enough for the harsh vacuum of space. Biopod makes it easy to grow anything from a mini rainforest for your pets to a herb and vegetable garden for your kitchen. Biopod is an app controlled microhabitat that automatically regulates temperature, light, humidity, ventilation and rainfall. Simply tell the Biopod App what you want to raise or grow and Biopod will create the ideal environment for your plants and animals. In this extra special episode, 5 different PhD students at different stages of their career discuss their own unique PhD journey. We hear from the recent graduate Miguel Cueva about how his career plans changed during the highs and lows of his experience. Rist Van de Weyer discusses how he dealt with getting scooped – and how he experienced fatherhood at the same time. Joan Cortada García moved with his supervisor from Glasgow to Edinburgh in the midst of his second year and talks about the impact this had on his research. We hear from Lindsay Williams what it was like to have children during her PhD and how working part-time has helped her with that. Finally, Liz Gaberdiel discusses the benefits and difficulties of moving to a new discipline when starting her PhD.

In this episode, we’re diving into how microorganisms could be useful in synthesising biomaterials. Even better, they can be used to clean up waste products and turn them into something useful. Severina Pociunaite sits down with Dr Stephen Wallace to discuss his work and his goals for a sustainable future. Compact designis ideal for shade gardens and patios - compatible with rural, suburban and urban settings Plant or seed your favorite species of plants into the Biopod. The app will guide you through each step making suggestions along the way. Your habitat will be up and running in no time. Enjoy the benefits of a fully automated system in action and never worry about environmental settings. Description The renowned Bios Urn is a magnificent addition to our range of biodegradable urns. The biodegradable urn tree was born from the desire of becoming one with mother nature after passing away, which provides peace of mind to many of our customers. The Bios tree Urn combines a loved one’s ashes with the earth to help germinate a seed or tree of your choice, using the qualities from the ashes (phosphate) as a fertiliser which in turn becomes a loving memorial to your lost loved one. The bios urns are 100% biodegradable and made only from recyclable materials. The urn itself supports any seed you wish, so whether you want to grow a memorial tree or a garden of flowers, this bio urn will suit every need and every person. The bios urn is split into 2 compartments, the main bulk of the urn in which the remains are held and a top compartment which supports the initial growth of the plant before it combines with the ashes once stable roots are grown. Full instructions can be found below. These biodegradable urns are suitable for the burial of human ashes and pet/animal ashes, both would create a loving memory for family and friends to visit for generations.

In doing so, Belvisi hopes her company will find ways to improve things on the surface too, with more efficient tools for scrubbing CO 2 from the air or treating wastewater. “The entire purpose of space exploration is actually to help us live in a more sustainable way on this planet,” she says. In this episode, Chris Donohoe (@dono_heptane) chats with PhD students Casey Patmore (@paseycatmore) and Georgia Lambert (@GALambert3) about the fascinating world of the behavioural ecology of burying beetles. They discuss how to "keep calm and carrion" when researching beetles, who need carrion to raise their progeny. What factors affect their parenting behaviour and what can it teach us about the complex responses of insects to effectively care for their offspring? As well as working like a greenhouse, it can function as an enclosed ecosystem for your little pets, without the need for a lot of maintenance. This means your wee froggos or other pets are kept safe and sound. The urn is made with two separate capsules, one of which will contain the seed or sapling that you want your loved one to be remembered by. How it works: enzymatic action breaks down the dirt and grime. The biological agents - natural bacteria - then digest the newly dissolved grime in a completely safe, non-toxic way.

The BioPod container is assessed for its potential to perform economically viable under the three scenarios of vegetable production. The three scenarios are:With the newly created BioPods, Interstellar Lab initially aim to better life on Earth through durable farming and the preservation of biodiversity, but with the longer-term ambition to prepare humanity to settle on other planets.

This product is the self-sustaining food production system called BioPod. Built to withstand extreme climates, the modules aspire to land on other planets in few years after a complete refit, but, importantly, can be highly beneficial across our globe too. The architecture reduces land and water needed to produce food on Earth by more than 99%. Specific environmental conditions are realized to grow a diverse array of crops and plants. Predictive maintenance is then used to achieve to achieve high-precision agriculture. So, let's get down to the techie stuff. It has a Biopur Air injection system, which combines aeroponics with "advanced substrate and ventilation technology, perfectly balancing oxygen and carbon dioxide while maintaining life sustaining equilibrium". I love jargon. Apparently, this system closely replicates natural air patterns that occur in real habitats. Sweet. Interstellar Lab launched the mini extraterrestrial cities, called Experimental Bio-Regenerative stations (Ebios), as their first project in 2018. The concept houses all infrastructure and resources needed to support as well as sustain human life on another planet. These could be composed of independent modules or combined for a complete self-sufficient unit. The stations produce and recycle almost everything needed, from water to air and food. The French-American startup has harnessed talents and expertise from NASA, Space X, Trimble, Airbus, and Dassault Systemes, including scientists, engineers, and architects. Lethal Pursuer (a Nemesis perk) is useful paired with Denied Requisition Form so you know exactly where survivors are at the beginning of the game, meaning you can hop right to them.I've had body alignment issues since I was a kid (I am 40 now)— regular trips to the chiro and osteopath, which would help for a day or two only. I had constant pain between my shoulder blades, worsening when I stressed out. We also asked her advice for students and young professionals. So why not grab a tea and sit down with us to talk about the past, present and future, about our School and yourself? Sall4 could help time cellular differentiation as part of embryonic development and is therefore implicated in developmental disease. By getting more insight into proteins that bind AT rich regions we could learn more about the cause of some diseases. In this episode, Liz Gaberdiel chats to Gerben van Ooijen, postgraduate advisor and Director of the Graduate School at the University of Edinburgh. They discuss the role of postgraduate advisors and how they can help during PhD studies. We hear what situations postgraduate advisors can help with and Gerben gives us some vital advice on how to maintain a productive, healthy and enjoyable PhD journey. They also discuss his work as the Director of the Graduate Schoo and illustrate the key role he plays in maintaining the high standards of Edinburgh's PhD programmes. The 3/4" drainage part that connects to the main body can be difficult to attach on the new, thinker pods. To improve installation, you may slightly increase the diameter of the hole with a 3/4" drill bit.
