Writing as Georgie she has produced a witty portrayal of the menopause, motherhood and marriage. I had to start over at my age from a blank slate. I started to question myself about what I really wanted in life. I realized life is too short, one never knows what the future will bring.

What transpired was this book, 20 wildly different explorations of what rage meant to each of the writers, from discovering their Aboriginality and reconnecting to their heritage and culture, exposing the dreadful neglect of an elderly relative, explaining how a childhood character in a book became the model to inspire anger and writing, the dreadful and life changing impact of a ‘bad acid trip’, exposing society’s response to perceived disabilities, to second (third?) wave feminism, immigration detention and climate change. She is known for her playful style and keep-it-real perspective, removing the stigma on these topics and encouraging others to feel safe in discussion.

I admit to the whole world that "I mostly ignore my kids" so I can't wait to receive my mum of the year nomination! ;-) She often presents on topics such as speaking up for oneself in other aspects of one's life including one's healthcare —covering areas mental, physical, and emotional — with providers, family members, friends and acquaintances. There are many reasons why women — and men — voted as they did but Scott Morrison was undoubtedly a powerful, if unwitting, Teal tool.

Woman of a Certain Age' is the debut novel of Fiona Walker's alter ego Georgie Hall. As Fiona she writes multi character comedies, to my surprise I have only read one and that was in 1994, 'French Relations', her first published novel. Maybe I should rectify this!Although we may not all experience such menopausal adventures as the protagonist Eliza, many readers will certainly identify with the real life scenarios, the marital ups and downs, teenage angst, autism and the death of a much loved family pet. If you're looking for a specific age, which will make you either jump up to go to the night club and do flaming navel shots or conversely cry into your cold cereal late at night, there really isn't one. Although Eliza's "adventure" is maybe not something we will all get to experience, it's full of real life scenarios. The way that the little dog's death was dealt with was spot on and gave me misty eyes on several occasions remembering the loss of my own dog. The book is well paced and it is very easy to engage with the likeable Eliza, who tells her story in the first person. Starting the book I was unsure that it was really something that I would enjoy, but several chapters later I found that I was wrong about that. Despite the difference in gender and the biological issues that creates, I was able to relate to quite a lot that Eliza was describing.
