WWII is now in full swing and Giles Barrington (Emma's brother and Harry's best friend), who'd rather party than fight, nevertheless joins the Wessex Regiment. Giles turn out to be a brave and capable soldier whose experiences on the battlefield - and in a POW camp - are impressive and compelling. Theoretically, I give five stars to any book that makes me cry. So this one qualifies. But, on top of that, it deserves five stars. So with a few years behind me out of the real world, I get a yen for a good crime novel, watch Criminal Minds and I said it was about time when Booth and Bones finally did it. In this case, the someone is a businessman from upstate New York named Cale Hanniford. A few days earlier, Hanniford's daughter, Wendy, had been savagely murdered in the apartment she shared with a young man named Richard Vanderpoel. Minutes after the killing, Vanderpoel was found covered in the victim's blood, exposing himself and shouting obscenities in the street in front of the apartment. The police arrested him and less than forty-eight hours later, the young man hanged himself in his cell. What a fast read! Although I didn't love The Sins of the Fathers, there's enough here to know that later books in the series will be entertaining, and hopefully get better and better. But even accepting commercial logic perspectives, my problem is with the content novelty. Do I detect a struggle to put in a number of smaller stories for the bulk? Strangely, I enjoyed Hugo Barrington more than the protagonists, he remained true to himself until the end.

the sins of father , has everything a Jeffrey Archer book has. right from the prison accounts which are a trademark ever since the author's brief stay in the prison to the war and political aspects which are found in almost all his books. There is also the 'unseen' romance like paths of glory and hell! EVERYTHING that you could ask for. God is completely free to govern his universe. There is nothing that is outside of his sovereign will. But God grants free agency to his creatures. We are moral beings given choices to make. It is our nature that is bound in sin. One whose disposition is sinful will, quite naturally, follow the “north star” of such a nature. Conversely, one who has been redeemed from sin by the grace of God in His Son our Savior Jesus Christ has the opportunity to choose what is good and what is right. Harry clifton , Giles Barrington and Emma and Maise and surely Sir walter barrington maybe the most regal and awesome characters created EVER. It is sad how all the friends who help these characters die =( but someone has to die in the was right? :P LB is best known for his series characters, including cop-turned-private investigator Matthew Scudder, gentleman burglar Bernie Rhodenbarr, globe-trotting insomniac Evan Tanner, and introspective assassin Keller. Because one name is never enough, LB has also published under pseudonyms including Jill Emerson, John Warren Wells, Lesley Evans, and Anne Campbell Clarke.

Scudder follows the slim leads he has and over a few days of searching out and questioning people who knew her, he develops a sharp idea of the life of the deceased roommates. I began reading this book a few days after having read its predecessor. Although it was enjoyable in parts, i must say that i didnt feel all those 'wow' moments I experienced in 'Only Time Will Tell.' Well that's enough about me, what about the book? The mystery is very secondary here; in fact, I didn't think the mystery seemed all that important. Much more vital to the story is our introduction to weary, troubled, lonesome ex-cop Matt Scudder and his booze-soaked life in the Big Apple. Scudder has had a very bad thing happen that's driven him out of the force and away from his wife and sons into a solitary life of unlicensed private investigating. People come to Scudder with questions they want answered. For a variable fee, he'll try to help them out. The focus remains on the identity of Harry's father,as that would have a bearing on his future.But that identity still cannot be proved,in this book. So if this were a case of raging jealousy and Wendy, as Richie’s father said, had trapped him with sex, why was Richie bunking on the couch?

In this first novel, a father asks Scudder to look into his daughter's death. The young woman was found naked with her throat slashed on her own bed. Separately, the police are called to arrest a man seen naked from the waist down and covered in blood, screaming gibberish in the street. The man was taken to jail and found hanged in his cell the next morning, an apparent suicide. When the police realize this man was the young woman's roommate, they figure it was a lover's quarrel gone horribly wrong; case closed.
