About this deal
While singing is a “natural” phenomenon, it is still a skill that can be developed and improved with both practice and guidance under a good teacher. The biggest challenge for most male singers is to negotiate the first passage or vocal break between the chest voice and the head voice to sing in mixed voice. Now sing a note and with your stomach relaxed, use the two fingers to gently pulse against your diaphragm while you sing. So, if you’re asking “how can I sing with a bad voice?”, cheer up! Lots of people have found success with less-than-perfect voices. Rather than just sing formless notes, you give a “name” to each note and sing them up and down the scale.
In this exercise, you’re going to use the power of your speaking voice to speak-sing the note in a 5-Tone major arpeggio. So, practice this seamless transition, up and down, switching between vocal registers over and over again to build that muscle memory. Then try coming out of lip trills at key points within those transition notes to practice hitting notes near to your vocal break. Finally, use the muscle memory you are building with lip trills to practice the same movement from chest to head voice, but in full singing. Remember to listen to the sound you are making, there are audio clips below to help you find the right note. You can think of the lip trill as a compressor on your voice. It boosts the notes that you would normally sing in falsetto, and reduces the strain on the notes you might yell. Next we’ll start to sing higher notes on slightly less funny sounding exercises. Singing Technique #9: The Octave Repeat “No” Just try saying “Guh Guh Guh” and you’ll see what I mean. The feeling you get when singing that glottal “G” consonant is the feeling of the vocal folds closing. This ensures an even volume.
The whole point of the 5-Tone Count is to match the strength of your speaking voice to your singing voice. So make sure there’s no breathiness in your voice as you count out loud. Every singer wants to expand their range. Expand Your Range Fast will show you how to finally hit high notes in your voice without straining. Expand your range by 5 notes or more! Learn More 20. Don’t Force Your VoiceEach one of these vocal problems comes from an imbalance between the chest voice and the head voice.
