There are two types of Costus Root. Both come in the form of a dried root and both provide amazing medicinal benefits: The Qust/Costus is of two types - the Qust al Hindi (Indian wood Costus) and Qust al Bahree (sea incense Costus). The Oud al Hindi is hotter than both while Qust al Bahree is lighter and white in colour. Ibnul Qayyim RA says that “it is ‘hot and dry in the third degree’ and they dry out phlegm and colds.

Using Costus Root in large amounts may cause nausea and headaches. You should only use Costus up to three times a day.
