About this deal

The above is an overview of the rules and hopefully gives you a good idea of how the game plays. Final Thoughts In addition to the vibrant and inviting illustrations, there’s an incredible amount of attention to detail throughout the production. Every single piece has a proper place in the custom designed Game Trayz inserts and on the board, which makes set-up and tear-down a breeze and ensures that pieces don’t get mixed up in transport. The various Trail tiles that make up the modular movement board are wonderful, fitting together perfectly, and even the token holders have been shaped so that they slide into place in the box. Just opening the lid and seeing how much care has gone into this game makes you immediately want to jump in and play it. Placing tiles on your board works differently to most polyomino puzzles in that they cannot touch each other. You will also need to avoid trees and maximise bonuses on your board.

In a summary review for Ars Technica, Aaron Zimmerman stated that he recommended the game "based solely on the strength of its stunning presentation", but that the "game is also great". [2] In a review for Board Game Quest, Tom Mastrangeli describes it as having "stellar artwork, which is nothing short of phenomenal". [1] In the Best Artwork Nominees description for the 2019 Diamond Climber Board Game Awards, Rachel LeCompte stated that "every inch of this game is covered in gorgeous illustrations". [6] In his review for Meeple Mountain, Ian Howard states that "everything about Parks is beautiful", including the box cover art, the rulebook, the tokens and other game pieces, and "above all the Parks cards". [5]When the sun reaches the final space, that player takes one bonus photo for free. Each player then gets one more turn to carry out final moves, before points are tallied and a winner declared! Let’s Go ‘Round Again

I think it says a lot that after discussing Parks Wildlife with my group, one player spoke up and said “Do you think we should start with a wildlife card already reserved randomly?” To be turned into basically an open or side objective when the park cards were the main players in the game of Parks, well it speaks a lot to me at least about how whilst the iterative design is great, the art and amount of cards is really disappointing. The Trail Gets Harder On a player’s turn, they must move one of their two hikers forward on the trail to an unoccupied space. Whichever location they stop on, they can take the action of that tile. Usually, these are collecting resources, but some will have unique actions such as taking photos (1 VP at the end of the game each), exchanging resources, or taking actions from other locations in the game. Players also have a campfire token they can spend to stop on an occupied location that can be used once or twice a season. If this is the start of the game, the player to the right of the First Hiker receives the Camera, and all players draw a Canteen. The end of the trail will allow players to either reserve a Park, visit a Park, or buy gear, cards that can offer a one-off bonus, as well as an on-going perk. There are bonuses for those that finish the trail first, netting additional resources once they finish that current trail. Overall, the card art is amazing and I think this is the main draw of this game. Despite some being very similar to the base game as I mentioned, it is still an expansion I would buy simply just to get these cards. I love going through them, just gazing at the beautiful images, imagining what it would be like to be there. On a turn, a player selects either one of their Hikers and moves them down the Trail -- any space to the right of that Hiker’s current location. There’s some rule updates too which I’ve not much time for such as being given a choice between objective cards at the beginning of the game. I much prefer people just being thrown objective cards and you all just trying to have to make it work, forcing you to play in a way you’re not used to (though a choice between canisters is a nice addition considering how overpowered some were) but all of that’s neither here nor there. How you play the game is how you play the game. It is safe to say that this game is certainly a bit of eye candy. But it is also a fantastic family game in addition to that. Personally, it will be a game that I play with my family during a holiday. Or a game I will get out to introduce people to the hobby. OK, it won’t be a go-to for me, but overall, I love PARKS. I think it has achieved a quality balance between, looks and function. Something we don’t often see, or at least to the level that PARKS has achieved. A delightfully looking game, with wholesome gameplay and a game that won’t disappoint! a b Mastrangeli, Tony (7 April 2021). "PARKS: Nightfall Expansion Review". Board Game Quest . Retrieved 14 November 2021.

It’s a very easy game to understand and even easier to set up and play thanks to the aforementioned tiny footprint, exceptionally well thought out storage solution and components that allow for a super-fast set-up time. Give up any regular token and exchange it for a different regular token type of your choice. You can do this twice.Parks is a board game with a theme based on the national parks of the United States, [2] published by Keymaster Games. [3] The game's art was derived from the Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series. [4] Gameplay [ edit ] The strategies you can employ are limitless, gear and canteen cards can add innumerable bonus combinations which means that each play requires a slightly different approach, at higher player counts so much is changing between turns that planning ahead becomes difficult. A tiny mechanic, but for players who love Parks it can make a big an impact as a bison actually is. Missing Parks?
