About this deal

Yet... the whole charm of the book started out as this weird mishmash of cooky characters. The humor is all based on these weirdos interacting with each other in a very immediate sort of way. Now, of course the main characters are tangled in the big thing more and more, but somehow it feels like we have small, funny moments that often felt a bit separate from the main thing. Overall, this series is pretty fun, but I have to admit I didn't like this one nearly as much as the previous two. C.K. McDonnell weaves together his various plot lines with great skill and inserts the occasional strange report from The Stranger Times archives. As in the previous books, one of its epilogues serve as a teaser for what is coming next. I can hardly wait! His Stranger Times series, which melds urban fantasy, paranormal, and humour with crime, is written under the pen name of C.K McDonnell. [8] [9] Recognition [ edit ]

I thought this book was somewhat of a mixed bag. It had moments of real brilliance and "laugh out loud" witticisms that I simply adored and yet .... somehow ... Not as solid an experience as the previous two. Both The Dublin Trilogy and The Stranger Times series have been optioned for television. [13] [14] Works [ edit ] Novels [ edit ] The Dublin "trilogy" [ edit ] Oh Mr McDonnell. You made me snort with laughter, you made me shout at the staff of The Stranger Times to run faster before something bad happened, you made me cry. I LOVED this third instalment. I don't know where we're going next but I'm definitely along for the ride.

I know you already have heard me repeat this many times over the last few years but I’m going to say it here again – I am a fan, a huge fan of C. K. McDonnell’s (aka Caimh’s) writing. I originally read The Dublin Trilogy, an Irish based, extremely funny, crime series featuring Bunny McGarry, one of my all time favourite lead protagonists, and have been hooked since. Caimh has his roots in stand-up comedy and his wit and comedic timing shines through in every single word, every piece of dialogue. As usual, the book is written in a fun style, which I find to be reminiscent of Terry Pratchett, but with a hint of Douglas Adams mixed in. The pacing is good, and all the characters we've come to know and love get their fair share of time, plus there's a new character or two to help move the story along in different directions.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of this series so carry on please, just make the next episode sooner rather than later (Bunny McGarry won't mind). We have more interaction with Cogs and Zeke, Simon Brush and DI Sturgess but the undoubted new star of the show is Betty the new assistant editor. I don't know how he does it but Caiomh McDonnell writes the best women's roles. I loved Betty. So, same old mayhem and lovably bonkers characters. For me, the plotting on this book was a bit too fractured and it was quite hard to keep all of the scattered plot lines together in my head. There was also nowhere near enough of a certain dashing policeman in evidence, with or without his live-in friend.

Die Bücher sind einfach immer absolut kurzweilig und durchgekramt, aber so charmant und liebevoll, dass man sie einfach lieben muss!
