About this deal

Keeping your hands warm on the mountain is a ski glove’s primary job. Almost all ski gloves will be advertised as “warm,” but the proof is in the pudding. Some gloves are much warmer than others. Pearl Izumi, a very popular apparel brand in the cycling community, has been making lobster gloves for years (probably decades.) They have produced many typical gloves, but the latest model in a new take on lobster gloves. This probably comes from Rukka’s experience in making ski wear, because the Lobster gloves don’t actually feel like motorcycle gloves.

Wet conditions will also leave you colder, so most gloves will have a waterproof membrane and/or DWR surface coating to help keep your hands drier. Materials Polyester liner enhances warmth and repels water to keep you dry and comfortable in hostile conditions.Drybike Weathershields are a concept similar to pogies, but they are a little smaller and lighter weight.

Slide your hands into the glove and — although you probably wouldn’t know it if I hadn’t told you — your individual fingers fit into their own sleeve, two in the outer “hook” and two in the other. Your thumb has to keep itself warm, but that’s OK; you need it to hold the grips anyway. Editor’s Note: We updated our Ski Gloves guide on October 18, 2023, to include the Swany X-Cell Glove and Leki Xplore among other product and section additions. The Best Ski Gloves of 2023-2024 Part of what I like is that they are warm and comfortable. I love the way Sportful adds so much silicone grip to the palms of their gloves. A big consideration though is that all gloves fail. Coming home with four or five pairs of bulky gloves that are soaking wet is a hassle. You also have to own them and good gloves aren't cheap. Straps can cause hand and wrist injuries in crashes. And the Trigger System has an automatic release with a firm yank to protect you while making connecting to your ski poles easier at the same time.Knit gloves are a staple of winter riding in the cold and wet and there is a somewhat endless range of choices for them. Lots of companies make them and I've yet to find a particular advantage to one brand. The Giro Xnetic H20 gets the nod because they have a high visibility colour and some of the best pricing. There are lovers of these style gloves that manage to make them work through an entire winter. I run cold though and I find that in the US Pacific Northwest, these are strictly an option for milder days. Whereas, if you live in chilly areas, then you might need more than full-fledged bar mitts set to keep your hands warm enough. I'm hardly breaking new ground here by recommending the Pearl Izumi AmFib Lobster Glove. Talk to most cyclists who've been riding in seriously cold weather for a long time and these will come up. The reason they are so well known and loved comes down to what it takes to keep you warm. You can make exceptionally warm five-finger gloves but after a certain point, the price starts to really jump. Gore invented the idea of a breathable membrane. Many of the other options on this list use either a Gore-branded membrane or a duplicate of the same concept. Not every membrane Gore makes is waterproof, but the membrane in the Gore C5 Gore-Tex gloves is absolutely and completely waterproof and guaranteed to be so.
