About this deal

UPS systems are typically built using lead-acid batteries to provide power in case of an outage, but these solutions have not evolved much in the past few years. Data centers increasingly are searching for ways to reduce the size and weight of these systems, reduce cooling requirements, and extend the life of UPS systems while reducing costs. Capacity: Our range from 12V 12AH to 48V 100AH can provide enough power to keep your critical equipment running for hours. Plus, our batteries can be recharged in as little as 1 hour Total Cost of Ownership: For UPS systems, lithium-ion batteries are generally more expensive than lead-acid batteries, although those costs are falling. The real advantage for li-ion systems is in their lifespan. Over a 15-year period, lead-acid-based systems would need to be replaced two or three times, while li-ion systems may not need replacement at all. This graph is based on actual measured runtime data. All measurements were taken with new, fully charged batteries and a balanced resistive load (PF = 1.0). Actual runtimes may vary from the values of this graph. Actual runtimes are dependent on several v Rated at 800VA/450W, it has more than enough power output for simple equipment. It should even be enough to power a PC, albeit for a very short time. There's no AVR protection from power fluctuations, but it uses standby power management to help regulate voltage.

Li-ion systems are relatively new to the UPS system space, but they can provide a number of key advantages for data center applications. These batteries generally have a higher specific energy/energy density than lead-acid batteries, a longer lifespan, a shorter recharge time, and are capable of completing a larger number of charge/discharge cycles (as many as two or three times more cycles than a lead-acid, depending on the chemical composition of the battery). However, li-ion systems are more sensitive to charging and discharging methods. Most of these batteries include a battery management system (BMS) to protect against short circuits and overcharging. Longer lifespan– An Eco Tree UPS battery have at least 10 times the cycle life of average sealed lead-acid batteries normally found in UPS unitsThe key difference between a lithium-ion battery and a lead-acid battery is the mix of chemicals used in the electrodes and electrolyte within the battery. Lithium-ion batteries use a metal oxide for the cathode, and a carbon-based material for the anode. The electrolyte is a lithium salt dissolved in an organic solvent.

LiFePO4 batteries are lighter than lead-acid or absorbent glass mat (AGM) options, making them easy to transport and install.

Battery capacity (usually denoted by the power rating in watts) should be the number one focus when getting a UPS. A sub-1000W UPS should be good enough for most appliances, but if you have really powerful systems like a gaming rig, you might want to look beyond the 1000W mark. A lead-acid battery uses lead dioxide for the cathode, a lead anode, and sulfuric acid as the electrolyte. First, what do you need to power and over what time? If you need to power a laptop or small appliance for a short period, a small lithium-ion battery should be enough. But if you need to power a large device, several devices at once, or charge electric vehicles, you’ll need more capacity. While this APC model has ten outlets, only five are connected to the battery (the other five have surge protection, though). We feel five outlets should cover most setups adequately. This unit is vertically oriented, so while it doesn't have a large footprint, it will resemble a computer tower.

Why replace a lead acid battery with lithium UPS?

Protected against short circuit and reverse polarity. That results in a lower cost of ownership (TCO) and lower maintenance costs. According to an analysis by Schneider Electric, li-ion-based UPS systems can have a TCO that is 10-40% less (as of 2016) than that of a lead-acid system over a 10-year period. Below we’ve provided an analysis of some of the pros and cons of using li-ion batteries in UPS systems. The device has an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) to protect the battery from power fluctuations. It also has a built-in surge protector to safeguard your connected devices from abnormal jolts of electricity.
