About this deal

After Gideon has fulfilled his goal which has taken him ten years, he is currently in Limbo without a plan of what to do next. He gets recruited in Effective Engineers Solutions organizations by Eli Glinn where he is to carry out a very sensitive mission. The organization wants Gideon to obstruct a Chinese scientist who is escaping to the United States. The scientist has vital information which could be very useful to the U.S government. They believe that the information is on how to develop a new weapon. Since Gideon has done well over the years on such jobs, they trust that he is the best man for that job If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that we’ve been slowly making our way through the Old Testament, following St. Augustine’s advice: However, other scholars see the story as a single narrative, whose author made allusions to various Pentateuchal passages that he was familiar with. [32] The story also contains consistent thematic elements which suggest a unified composition. [33] And that's what this series is. Parts were a tad unbelievable, but really, most spy/thriller novels have to accept a suspension of disbelief. Yeah, Preston & Child's heroes are always a little affected. Pendergast with his fancy apartment in Dakota, sipping 100 year old wine, while eating dove's eggs and reading Samuel Johnson. Here we have a new hero, Gideon, who is busy preparing his one daily French gourmet meal in a beautiful rustic cabin filled with fancy computer equipment, with stolen artwork on the walls. The two have a simple mentorship, but Aiglamene is the closest thing to family that Gideon has within the Ninth House. However limited Aiglamene's support may be in actuality, she is the only person in Gideon's corner on the Ninth Planet, and for many years that was enough to win her Gideon's respect. Aiglamene attempts to teach Gideon a number of lessons on obedience and respect that Gideon will only truly come to understand when she leaves home.

I cannot say whether I detest the story or the narrator more. They are both so awful that I quit the book. (Lest you think I'm superficial, I listened for three hours hoping it would get better. It didn't.) The Lord said to Gideon: "Your army is too large. If Israel should win the victory, they would say, 'we won it by our own might.' Send home all those who are afraid to fight." Here's the deal: A renegade through and through, Crew is offered a job with a private contractor that involves finding a Chinese scientist who is supposedly sneaking plans for a deadly weapon into the United States. Apparently, someone else wants what the scientist has as well, and in an early-on melee, the scientist ends up dead. But that's not before he passes on a string of numbers to Crew, who tries to save him. Now, the race is on to find out what those numbers mean. Four of these judges are mentioned in a passage in the eleventh chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews. There, the sacred author, traditionally considered to be St. Paul, holds up a number of biblical heroes as examples:God chose Gideon, a young man from the tribe of Manasseh, to free the people of Israel and to condemn their idolatry. The Angel of the Lord, or "the Lord’s angelic messenger" [12] came "in the character ... of a traveller who sat down in the shade [of the terebinth tree] to enjoy a little refreshment and repose" [13] and entered into conversation with Gideon. The narrative has echoes of the meeting between Abraham and the visitors who came to him in the terebinths of Mamre and promised Abraham and Sarah, in their old age, that they would have a son ( Genesis 18:1–15). [ citation needed] The angel greeted Gideon: "The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!" [14] Gideon recognizes the markings on the key to be the same markings from room X-203, and they find that the key fits. Inside, the room is a combination of a laboratory and a living quarters, where a necromancer and their cavalier could have lived and worked in tandem. On the laboratory side, Harrow discovers a preserved record of the entire theorem of transference, which she copies into her notes. On the living quarter's side, Gideon finds several clues and notes about the room's former occupants. Archaeologists in southern Israel have found a 3,100-year-old fragment of a jug with five letters written in ink that appear to represent the name Jerubbaal, or Yeruba'al. [4] Names [ edit ]

Gideon Crew seems like an interesting main character. Not as interesting as A.X.L. Pendergast but I really don’t expect anyone to be THAT interesting and unique. Gideon falls hard and fast for Cytherea the First, who is pretending to be Dulcinea Septimus. Beautiful, delicate, and full of lively mischief, Cytherea makes Gideon feel wanted and needed in a way she has never felt on the Ninth. In Cytherea, she finds a necromancer she could willingly serve-- she is simply unaware that is all under false pretenses. Then it’s God’s turn to test Gideon. Gideon has assembled an army of 32,000 men, and God tells him that there are too many men: Gideon Nav arrived on the Ninth House in a small bio-container attached to her brain-dead mother's hazard suit. They tumbled down the ravine at the center of the Ninth Planet despite there being no record of her in the prison above and her having no ability to survive the entry from the atmosphere without a shuttle. [3] Gideon went on to make an ephod out of the gold won in battle. This action eventually caused the whole of Israel to turn away from God yet again and the ruin of Gideon and his family. [23] Gideon had 70 sons from the many women he took as wives. He also had a Shechemite concubine who bore him a son whom he named Abimelech, which means "my father is king". [24]Gideon Crew has a lot on his mind. His mother has died, but only after revealing on her deathbed the true story of his father's murder. Reeling and thirsting for revenge, this talented operative must confront an even more pressing matter: He was been enlisted to steal plans for a Chinese megaweapon from a defecting scientist. Trademark Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child action and suspense in a new series starter.” Gideon counted these men, and found that there were only three hundred of them, while all the rest bowed down on their faces to drink. The difference between them was that the three hundred were earnest men, of one purpose; not turning aside from their aim even to drink, as the others did. Then, too, they were watchful men, always ready to meet their enemies.

At twelve, Gideon Crew witnessed his father, a world-class mathematician, accused of treason and gunned down. Preston and his brother Richard are currently producing a television miniseries for ABC and Mandalay Entertainment, to be aired in the spring of 2000, if all goes well, which in Hollywood is rarely the case. Meet Gideon Crew in the first novel in a high-octane new thriller series from the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling authors. After release Gideon unites with an FBI agent, Stone Fordyce, to find a nuclear bomb. An investigation is done in Chalker’s apartment, and many tools which can be used to create a weapon for Islamic terrorists are found. He also appears to have had converted into Islam and had been a member of the Jihadist group. They also find the map of DC and a calendar that shows that the bomb will explode after ten days to come. In the New Testament, Gideon is mentioned in chapter 11 of the Epistle to the Hebrews as an example of a man of faith, one of several "heroes of faith" mentioned there: [37]On the spot where the Lord appeared to Gideon, under an oak tree, near the village of Ophrah, in the tribe-land of Manasseh, Gideon built an altar and called it by a name which means: "The Lord is peace." This altar was standing long afterward in that place. Gideon's Sword is the first book in the Gideon Crew series and the character's first appearance in the Preston-Child universe. It was published on February 22, 2011 and also marked the return of Eli Glinn. It is the fifteenth full-length Preston-Child collaboration, and the first since 2000's The Ice Limit to not feature Special Agent Pendergast. Following the argument, Gideon decides to accept Silas's invitation to tea. Colum greets her, ensures that she is alone, and asks her to disarm. Gideon protests, but he swears that she will not be hurt. Inside, Silas explains that he has spoken with the revenant of Sister Glaurica and learned that the Reverend Mother and Father had arranged for the deaths of the two hundred Ninth House children that died in "the creche flu." Gideon is resistant to his information and defends Harrow—thinking him off base—but is confused by the depth of his knowledge on Ninth House affairs. Gideons International is an American organization dedicated to Christian evangelism, founded in 1899, dedicated to the distribution of free Bibles. The organization's logo represents a two-handled pitcher and torch, symbolizing the implements used by Gideon to scare the Midianite army.

But the Lord said to Gideon: "The people are yet too many. You need only a few of the bravest and best men to fight in this battle. Bring the men down the mountain, past the water, and I will show you there how to find the men whom you need."Gideon had thought that the Midianites would turn toward their own land, if they should be beaten in the battle, and he had already planned to cut off their flight. The ten thousand men in the camp he had placed on the sides of the valley leading to the Jordan. There they slew very many of the Midianites as they fled down the steep pass toward the river. And Gideon had also sent to the men of the tribe of Ephraim, who had thus far taken no part in the war, to hold the only place at the river where men could wade through the water. Those of the Midianites who had escaped from Gideon's men on either side of the valley were now met by the Ephraimites at the river, and many more of them were slain. Among the slain were two of the princes of the Midianites, named Oreb and Zeeb.
