About this deal

You won’t need a degree in engineering to assemble this lawn feed spreader either. In fact, it’s a doddle to put together and will only take 2 minutes as you can see from my video. In fact, it took me longer to cut the lid open than the actual setup process 😀 In terms of capacity I have laid in easily a good couple of kilo of seed, maybe even two! – reloading every few minutes doesn’t feel a burden at all when you’re covering so much ground:

Most manufacturer’s will state how much coverage you can get from their product. This can also vary depending on how many grams of seed the manufacturer recommends on using per meter squared. This is because of this lawn feed spreader’s most outstanding features, the large and wide pneumatic wheels. They do an excellent job of keeping the weight balanced as you move along, and really do a good job of making working up slopes a much less labour intensive task. But that’s it really – fully assembled in minutes and ready to start spreading lawn feed or grass seed! Testing lawn spreaders Looking for something a bit more heavy-duty? The Handy 50lb wheeled lawn and fertiliser spreader is among the most solid and sturdy models I’ve ever come across and would suit someone who has a medium to large-sized lawn, particularly if your lawn is on a slope or you have uneven terrain to negotiate.Sesleria caerulea (blue moor grass) linear pale, blue-grey leaves and bluish purple spikelets in panicles. Height to 30cm (1ft) Stipa gigantea 'Gold Fontaene' golden-green leavesandlargegolden-brown flowerheads to 2m (6½ft) or more Luzula sylvatica 'Marginata' (v) AGM rich green leaves neatly margined cream. Height to 80cm (32ins) If you’re working on a large scale, you’ll be able to fit roughly a 20 kg bag of fertiliser or lawn seed into the hopper at a time.

The best grass seed will also withstand local weather conditions. Ryegrass and Fescue grasses are the prime choice for shady gardens, whilst Tall Fescue can handle the UK’s wet weather. Meadowgrass or Fescue grasses are great for gardens with dry or sandy soil.People tend to go for these kinds of spreaders because they are low cost, easy to use and there is less chance of accidentally putting too much fertiliser down and killing off parts of your lawn. A1: Quite often there is enough residual fertility in the soil to help the young grass plants grow. Do not use strong fertilisers weed and moss killers for 24 weeks after sowing seed as young grass plants are tender and might be harmed.

This is a simple but clever design feature, and the type of thing I like to see product makers trying out instead of just making carbon copies of other top-selling models.

Koeleria glauca (glaucous hair grass) compact mound of glaucous, grey-green leaves and masses of upright stems bearing cylindrical panicles of silvery spikelets. Height to 40cm (16ins) It comes in a large 10 kg bag which can cover an area of approximately 200 m²; however, if that sounds like too much, it will also keep for the next year as well, so any that you don’t use won’t be wasted. You just can’t go wrong really – There’s no way you can justify the extra of the Scotts when you compare the price and how much you’ll use it, unless it’s for commercial purposes. Then read on to the Scotts lawn spreader as I compare and test them. A3: In ideal conditions germination starts in 4 days with a small root appearing soon followed by the grass blade. If the soil is cooler germination will take longer, maybe up to 28 days.

These are the two main types of lawn spreader available. Depending on your garden, and preferences, one may suit you better than the other. Both spread grass seed and fertiliser. Rotary Spreaders By contrast set to 0 is practically closed, ideal if you’re loading up in the shed and then walking your unit to your lawn – this makes keeping your seed and fertiliser in the shed all the easier: Calamagrostis × acutiflora 'Overdam' (v) (feather reed grass) bright-green and whitestriped leaves. Height 1.2m (4ft) Exceeds stringent regulations and is suitable for use in areas where children and pets have access. How to use Create a new lawn or fill in a bare patch 1. RakeWhen used with either fertiliser or grass seed, it spreads the particles evenly over the area, dramatically improving results compared to doing the job by hand. It’s a good choice for medium-sized lawns. I think the plastic wheels do a good job of keeping the lawn feed spreader rolling along. I would have preferred to see pneumatic wheels but I know that that would have almost certainly increased the price, so I get why Scotts chose what they did. Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' (blue fescue) (e) intense ice-blue fine, linear leaves. Height to 30cm (1ft) If you have a larger than usual lawn, you might want to consider a tow-behind spreader that you can pull with a quad or small tractor. When it comes to setting the distribution rate, the process is very straight forward. The spread rate can be adjusted using the yellow indicator that’s positioned by the hopper – it clearly states which setting is selected and takes a lot of the guesswork out of product spreading.
