About this deal

As Cleo drafts the final ever episodes of the series, people she knows start getting hurt. And it’s soon clear that someone is trying to frame her for murder. She thinks she knows why, but Cleo can’t tell the police or prove her innocence. Because then she’d have to confess about her other husband . . .

My 18th book is about a mystery writer who is in the middle of a divorce. Things really start to fall apart, though, when someone tries to frame her murder – in the same ways as the crimes she makes up. She has an alibi, but using it would reveal one of her most devastating secrets… Here’s the official blurb: I’d never heard of it, have you? And this (illness, mental state, obsession) played a huge part within this thriller that gripped my full attention. I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this. Dorothy Koomson is on formidable form . . . Clever, unnerving and utterly compulsive, the final few chapters left me breathless' Kia Abdullah You can always tell when a writer doesn’t care. All the words, no matter how pretty, no matter how clever, if they don’t come from the heart, they mean nothing. They fall flat. You can always tell.” Someone’s trying to frame me for murder. But I can’t prove my innocence. Because then I’d have to confess about… my other husband. But now she has decided to walk away from it all – including divorcing her husband, Wallace – before her past secrets catch up with her. Cleo and Heath. A very toxic relationship while Heath moves on to another woman while Cleo leaves him. Even that is proving difficult. Fiction and storytelling were still a HUGE passion of mine and I continued to write short stories and novels every spare moment that I got. In 2001 I had the idea for The Cupid Effect and my career as a published novelist began. And it's been fantastic. In 2006, third novel, My Best Friend's Girl was published. It was incredibly successful - selling nearly 90,000 copies within its first few weeks on sale. Six weeks later, it was selected for the Richard & Judy Summer Reads Book Club and the book went on to sell over 500,000 copies. Oh, there I go again, this is meant to be about me, not my novels.

I wrote my first novel called There's A Thin Line Between Love And Hate when I was 13. I used to write a chapter every night then pass it around to my fellow convent school pupils every morning, and they seemed to love it.

The dangerous obsession within the relationship of husband and wife and the guilt when the wife found out….why would she feel guilty I hear you ask if the obsession isn’t hers? I use my writing to try to explore what I’m feeling, I try to get into the heads of other people so I can see things from their point of view.

I had wanted to make up stories since I was a teenager. Probably younger. The only thing I liked better than reading stories was making them up. Writing was my escape, my comfort. It was also going to be my future. I knew it. Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. I was going to get myself into a routine so I wrote no matter what else was going on in my life.” I absolutely loved this book but then it's no secret that I am a huge fan of this author and have been since reading "The Ice Cream Girls"

Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters. There is plenty of tension and suspenseful moments and some well thought out plot twists as it builds to a very good ending. A richly-crafted psychological thriller, Koomson's clever tale makes for disturbing and compulsive reading ― Woman Related products A brilliant rollercoaster of a thriller about obsessive love and hidden secrets. Tense, twisty and unputdownable. Loved it! -- Claire Douglas
