About this deal

Sometimes a stronger message is required to prevent misuse of particular parking spaces. For example, a ;Blue badge holders only & Violators will be towed sign informs drivers that if a vehicle is left parked in a space designated solely for use by Blue Badge holders it will be towed away. Some businesses may find this message useful if they are experiencing issues with non-disabled drivers repeatedly parking in the wrong space. Disabled parking only Pedestrian Zones: these are areas that you may not enter during their operational hours. Even outside those times, there is usually a waiting and loading restriction stated on the bottom panel of the entry sign and on repeater signs within the zone, but not shown with yellow lines or ‘loading blips’ to indicate this within the zone. Parent and child spaces are usually offered in private car parks like shopping centres and supermarkets. Informing people of safe procedures: Safety signs can also inform people of safe procedures to follow in the workplace. For example, they can remind people to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, and gloves. The parking concessions available for users of organisational Blue Badges are the same as those for Blue Badges issued to individuals. Please read the rest of this guidance for information on what parking concessions you are entitled to and how to use the badge. What badge do I need for an organisation? This section tightens the obligations on private parking managers to ensure that the signs at the entrance to and within premises are designed and located so that they are clearly visible and convey all the information drivers need to see.

Advice

Parking zones can be described differently, for example, “Meter zone”, “Restricted zone”, “Disc zone”, “Voucher parking zone”, or “Pay & Display zone”. A 'no waiting' sign with a single yellow line means you can't wait there during the times shown on the sign.

Off-street car park operators should provide parking spaces for disabled people. However, it is up to the car park owner to decide whether badge holders can park free of charge.

Car parks operated by local councils are generally regulated by law. Typically, a principal sign will be displayed near the entrance to the car park describing who the car park is for, and if there are time limits on how long it is possible to stay for and details of any charges or free periods that may apply. Local signage in and around the car park may provide more information. These car parks follow specific rules regarding the scale of any penalties for not complying with the regulations of parking there and usually but not always these will be advertised locally too. We will review the Code of Practice within two years of it coming into force by the end of 2023. We will take into account data from our ongoing monitoring of the Code and developments in the wider industry, for example any changes to local authority penalties. If you’re a Blue Badge holder, you can ask your local council for a disabled parking space near your home. This is usually free but councils have different rules about who can apply for a space. Do not assume you can always park for free. The London boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, the City of Westminster, the City of London and part of the London Borough of Camden
