About this deal

Adapted into anime (which doesn’t happen to every manga mind you), series creator Mizuho Kusanagi has crafted a historical drama that involves royalty and the death of a king. In a lot of ways this series feels like it could fit in the Game of Thrones universe as the drama is strong and the characters even stronger. I don’t absolutely hate Su-won’s guts which I didn’t expect and will say its because of his expression of when Yona tells him why she went to visit her Father that night. I wouldn’t say that was an expression of regret, but I know he felt his choice a lot differently in that moment. We get to see quite a bit from Soo-Won point of view and he’s doing what he thinks is right. And you can feel the conflict of Yona & Hak: the betrayal, the hurt, and the feeling that, while they can’t forgive Soo-Won, they can’t fully condemn him either. It was rather humorous? Look, I’m not very experienced in the manga world so I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially from a fantasy. But the personalities of the characters just totally bounced off of one another! The drama had me LOL-ing the entire way through this story! Volume 14: Read January 18th 2022 - Poor Jaeha. His rivalry with Hak does make me giggle though. I wonder how this town and the drug Nadai is going to play into the rest of the story? Yona of the Dawn 22 Limited Edition with original anime DVD] (in Japanese). Hakusensha . I've only just recently finished the anime (covers 8 volumes of the whole series) and was upset to find it was unlikely for there to be a continuation, only to find out there was a manga with tons of more content which improved my mood significantly. I'm so happy I can find out what happens next after the end of the anime and volume 8. The first episode and volume may not seem out-of-this-world but the more you read/watch, the more the characters develop along with the story and interesting and complex things get. I’m deeply nervous about reading more but also trying to remain optimistic because it’s an interesting story and the same thing happened to me with A Silent Voice. I didn’t love the first volume, but steadily enjoyed the series the more I read it.

What is a 15 year old princess to do? She has a doting father who spoils her but her mother is no longer with them and the man she has fallen in love with in her even younger days is coming for her 16th birthday party. This book starts serious for a moment and turns fun as frivolous Yona worries about her hair and mentions it to the ruler of the land who is also her father. Of course to him she is more beautiful then all of the (insert beautiful objects here) so his opinion is not unbiased. With her love interest Su-won and bodyguard/childhood friend Hak we get to see even more into the past of Yona which leads to travesty. This story does a good job of building up a certain level of cheeriness which flavors the poison wine that befalls those that are mingled in the overthrow of everything Yona thought was real until then. Princess Yona lives an ideal life as the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Soo-won. But everything changes on her 16th birthday when she witnesses her father’s murder!

My favorite part about it is the relationship between the three main characters: Yona, Hak and Soo-Won. You get a good intro from the blurb: Yona is the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Soo-won.
