About this deal

There’s nuance in the audio as well, the smaller, quieter sounds adding density to the soundfield and bringing a scene to life in a very convincing manner. Intense combo-focused crime fighting! Defeat Spider-Man’s greatest enemies – from street thugs to super villains such as Electro and Venom – with crazy acrobatic fighting styles! The Amazing Spider-Man' came about for all the wrong reasons (the fear of the property being reabsorbed into Marvel's cinematic universe, wrestled away from Sony), but proves to be just the right kind of film for the character. I'm more than a little dismayed at how poor an Aunt May Sally Fields proves to be, but the rest of the cast really do sell their performances and characters, in some cases making us forget all about the past films. By the time the film ended, I found myself thankful rather than upset with losing Maguire's somewhat dopey Peter Parker and the prospect of a film featuring Baker as the lead villain, as Garfield and Ifans truly embody the characters. I'm now anxious for 2014, even if it means I have to stare at Garfield's ridiculous hair again for two hours. This reboot was worth it, and I can't believe I'm saying that. Audio: English: Dolby AtmosEnglish: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)Czech: Dolby Digital 5.1French: Dolby Digital 5.1German: Dolby Digital 5.1Italian: Dolby Digital 5.1Japanese: Dolby Digital 5.1Portuguese: Dolby Digital 5.1Russian: Dolby Digital 5.1Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1Turkish: Dolby Digital 5.1 The Amazing Spider-Man' works, it really does. When the film begins, we're introduced to a young Peter and his parents for the briefest of moments, to establish loss, and really drive home his living situation with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. From here, we have the outcast rather than the nerd, and establish his awkward relationship of sorts with Gwen Stacy (Stone), which directly ties in to the Oscorp segment that puts the film in motion. This film, unlike the 2002 version, seeks to keep Peter Parker in high school, as the innocence of the character, his naivety and euphoria over being "born again," as it were, works far better as a dependent minor than as an adult making his way in the big city all by his lonesome. While segments like the humiliation of Flash Thompson (Chris Zylka) are present in a different fashion, we're mostly given a different Peter, one that younger audiences can relate to more. More specifically, he doesn't spout out dialogue that sounds like it's straight out of 'Pleasantville.'

Become the Amazing Spider-Man in this open-world 3D adventure full of crime-fighting, web-slinging, and non-stop action as you face the web-slinger’s greatest challenge yet! There’s also the rush and thrill of the action sequences which are big, brash and over-the-top in a comic-book way. And while the film’s tone is erratic, when it works the film is fun. Dr. Connors wants to create a world without weakness and, in doing so, discovers a way for humans to regenerate missing limbs through studies in cross-species genetics. Here, sneaking into Oscorp, Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider and … well … you know the rest. He becomes Spider-Man. Connors becomes The Lizard. With a playful sense of humor, Webb examines the daily life of a teenager suddenly granted powers that are certainly unnatural. This time, though, the writers give Parker the comic book-approved web shooters which should please the fans as he takes to the rooftops and fights crime. There was a risk in this film, just like the downfall of ‘Spider-man 3’, of having too many stories choking the film and not allowing plot threads to breathe and resonate. They avoid it, just. The narrative is a busy one, with multiple players, but everything cross-connects and comes to bear in an entertaining and satisfying way. First off I do think the cast is very good. Andrew Garfield I think is really good as Spider-Man but I don't buy him as Peter Parker. I just don't see him as this dork, in real life with that persona he'd be rolling it with the cool kids. But as Spider-Man he's really good, he's on par if not better than Tobey Maguire's portrayal as Spider-Man. Martin Sheen does a really good job as Uncle Ben, Sally Field is good as Aunt May even though I feel she doesn't have much to do, Emma Stone is great as Gwen Stacy even though she is pretty underdeveloped. And Rhys Ifans even though being the most underdeveloped character in this film he is excellently portrayed. What isn’t as consistent is characterization, with DeHaan’s new rather demonic Harry Osbourne being at the better end of the scale, and Foxx’s Electro coming off the worst. Harry is a tragic figure with a massive chip on his shoulder that becomes dangerous; it accomplishes in one film what Raimi took three to do, and it does it better. Foxx’s character is pretty clichéd, a modern Frankenstein’s monster, but his transformation was far too simplistic and stereotypical for my taste; as a villain he’s imposing, how he becomes the villain doesn’t work. The Peter and Gwen romance is funny, engaging and their ups and down are compelling. More is built upon from the first movie about Peter’s parents and why they left. All the relationship moments for Garfield with both Stone and Field are heart-warming and really hammer home his confliction in letting them be close to him. It’s a more colourful, richer and vibrant image too, as the 4K HDR version digs deeper than the Blu-ray. Spider-Man’s suit is made up of deeper and better defined blues and reds (especially with the Oppo 203). The luminescence that surrounds Foxx’s Electro takes on an even more palpable glow and the lighting in scenes seems vastly improved making for an evocative, natural-looking image.
