Terminator: Resistance takes the franchise's obsession with making your own fate to heart, offering a healthy amount of player choice along the way. Choices may be small, such as deciding between leaving a medikit for an NPC or selfishly taking it for yourself, or large, such as whether you want to help a young woman and her little brother abscond from the underground shelter that acts as a hub in between levels, or convince them to stay. But the sum total of these choices feels fairly inconsequential, determining which ending you’ll arrive at upon the story’s completion (assembled into an unsatisfying sequence of static storyboard images), as well as which female NPC you’ll have hilariously awkward first-person sex with. It's not clear why this expansion isn't coming out for Xbox Series X and S. The announcement mentions the DLC has "dynamic visuals designed to take advantage of the power of the PS5" and you can "feel every pulse of your plasma rifle with the DualSense controller". There's also mention of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution for the PC version. It doesn't sound to me like the new Xbox consoles aren't capable of running Annihilation Line, at least.

It blends a lot of different ideas together, and while none of them really shine in any way, they are all fine. Regarding the gameplay alone, this game feels like it’s a very well polished game from the Xbox 360 era. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, but it just had a slightly dated glaze to the way it plays. It feels like Fallout 3 without the VATS system. There are some semi-open areas, there are some more narrow missions, there are some fairly intense cat and mouse missions similar to how Alien Isolation plays. It’s not quite a shooter, it’s not quite an RPG, it’s not quite a horror, but it’s very solid and enjoyable. It does feel a little janky at times due to the budget - some graphical glitches, some design glitches, some super rigid animations, the writing is sometimes pretty awkward, the voice acting is not top shelf, but everything I mentioned in the first paragraph makes up for it all. I felt kind of bad about sleeping with the boss because all throughout the game's terrible campaign I'd had my eye on Jennifer, my one true love, a woman who found it in her heart to flirt with me minutes after she had a terrifying encounter with a metal head. Jennifer is the woman I was supposed to fall in love with. Had I cheated on her? Maybe.
