About this deal

Confession time: I loved the film. Yes, the film is flawed, but I loved it anyway. It has heart, fun, and I respect its ambitions. As a huge fan of the visual development and fashion in films and games (not to mention as a visual development artist). I was desperate to get my hands on this book, consumed with desire to see more of the great genre-inspired designs and development from the film, the behind-the-scenes type of concept work. *sigh* Oh naive me.

BoxOfficeMojo, March 29, 2011, retrieved 2011-04-21 Prior to filming, the cast had twelve weeks of training and fight evaluations, beginning in June 2009 in Los Angeles and continuing through filming. The leads in the film were trained to deadlift up to 250 pounds (110kg) for their roles. Damon Caro, the stunt coordinator and fight choreographer from 300 and Watchmen, Snyder's previous films, was hired for the action design, stunt training and fight choreography for the movie. [43] [44] The other cast members started training without Hudgens while she was involved with other projects, including Beastly. [45] Abbie Cornish said that the rest of the cast were training six hours a day, five days a week in martial arts, swords and empty hand choreography. [46] Jena Malone has stated that her daily routine comprised four hours of warmups and mixed martial arts wushu training, then three hours of weight training, then firearms training and tactical positioning, and then pole-dancing lessons. [47] Snyder said that when the girls are fighting, "[like] they're on their way to kill a baby dragon, they've killed all of these orc-like creatures and they're entering a door [and] it's this classic, real Navy SEAL style room clearing. They have machine guns but they're fighting mythic creatures, impossible creatures. The hand to hand stuff is all brutal, because Damon [Caro] did all the [fights] in Bourne and it has that vibe to it." [48] Snyder remarks that in the girls' imaginations "they can do anything". [49] Production and design [ edit ] Although from watching the film as a woman the feminist themes are present although not in the most obvious ways.

From conceptuals to rehearsals, to design developments, to promo posters and marketing, this is a "smart" book documenting the making of the film, and designed to entertain and entice, without the theoretical essays of similar genre movie books (which I adore as well, in my earlier days of designing for film and television), and it works well for me! British film critic Mark Kermode described the film as "the most boring, ploddingly put together, infantile, crass, adolescent, stupid, chauvinistic twaddle that I've sat through in a very, very long time." [92] Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino named it one of the worst movies of 2011. [93] Snyder wanted to design the film as something with no limits, considering that he co-wrote the script from an original idea. He added that he wanted it to "be a cool story and not just like a video game where you're just loose and going nuts." [62] Snyder also noted the influence of Asian iconography, particularly Japanese elements such as samurai, anime, and mecha. [63] Title [ edit ]

McNary, Dave (March 4, 2010). "Warner Bros. punches up 3D lineup". Variety . Retrieved April 6, 2010. One of the more "wordy" aspect of the book, is the introduction initially for the entire movie. Much appreciated too (for folks like me who enjoy a good "war story" :p). The initial "anime" aspect of character designs is as well interesting, and may well be a great starting point for manga, animation or whatever geekery that may transcend and move on from the live-action movie! I remember when The Matrix held such ability to move beyond the silver screen, and perhaps it did but it dod not last as long as the video games and comicbook could bring it, IMHO.
