About this deal

I used to think that sincerity was valuable...and that it was the one and only way to change the world. But sincerity by itself changes nothing. Without power, one finds themself merely depending on others to live. I've taken enough risks to buy the power to change the world. That's how the world works. Ruka: She's a fool because she doesn't realize that her miracle is standing atop someone else's sacrifice. But that's the sort of person who receives miracles.

Shadow Girls is a book I would recommend, albeit with a warning that whoever reads it for the thrills and chills should be patient and perseverant. This was all well and good, but so impressed was she by him that the princess vowed to become a prince herself one day. But was that really such a good idea?

Utena: [ to Anthy] Will you stop with the "Bride" and "engaged" stuff!? Despite my looks, I'm a normal girl, and all I want is a totally normal boy! Cannon Fodder: Mother Hydra used the Slaads this way, knowing they couldn't resist. This leads Deep One Prime to lead his fellow Deep Ones in a short-lived rebellion. Tragedy happens at school, followed by another incident that causes some sort of incident at the school. Sally breaks up with her long term boyfriend Robin and then....and then the book takes off into an amazing, beautiful turn..several years into the future. Sally and her friends have finished college and are young adults. Sally and Robin run into each other in the street and reconnect. He's living in her old school, which has recently become an apartment building. And this is where the most interesting part of the book begins.

And with the RP that exists in the forums. Whenever you see characters like Hera and Tain popping up, that's a forumite crossover. Carol Birch’s novel is an addictive combination of school girl, coming-of-age and ghost novel. She cleverly turns the carefree, boisterous girls into fearful and edgy young women. The story is told from Sally’s point of view so we often get to know her thoughts which are convincingly portrayed: it is not easy to be a teenager, conflicting feelings, knowing what is right but doing what is wrong, making the wrong decisions and regretting them later.

In Memoriam: The anime's 15th anniversary DVD special edition was dedicated to lead VA Tomoko Kawakami, who passed away the previous year. The Morning Star...also known as Lucifer. The star that was originally an angel, but chose to become the Devil. I don't want to say much more and get into spoiler territory. I think this creepy story with its weird creepy girls in their old creepy school will stay with me for a while. I'll be seeking out more titles by Carol Birch. Unfinished Dub: The Latin American Spanish dub was never finished and only 30 episodes were dubbed, allegedly due to the show's controversial subject matter.

Experienced author Birch – who has penned 12 previous novels, including Booker Prize finalist Jamrach’s Menagerie – deserves praise for the crescendo of suspense created in Shadow Girls. But, while the tension and eeriness is palpable, I did feel at times the pacing was a bit off. And, while I’m not one to crave a neat ending, I felt there were quite a few ends that remain a little too loose. In fact I’m still quite confused by some of the paranormal activity in the novel and also so many side-story details that seemingly have very little – or no? – relevance to the plot.

Not so much for the show itself, but Rachael Lillis has admitted that she thought she was miscast as the voice of Utena in the English dub, and also lamented that original ADR director Jim Malone had little knowledge of the show and characters, which heavily affected her performance and the dub's quality.

Anthy: O Roses of the noble castle, Power of Dios that slumbers within me, harken unto thy master and reveal to us- If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: Played straight with Paul, who stopped Lin from killing the Bloodwatch member that almost Brainwashed him. Anthy: [ to Utena] I exploited your innocence. I encroached upon your kindness. I'm sorry, Utena. I've been unfair to you. I'm a dirty woman. I've betrayed you all along. Because I am the Rose Bride...because I am a doll with no heart...I thought that no matter what befell my body, my heart wouldn't feel the pain Foreshadowing: Misty's speech bubbles are subtly outlined in yellow, indicating that there's more to her than meets the eye...Adults Are Useless: They're not. At least those that don't need to be rescued from a Fate Worse than Death. Or the ones working for the bad guys. I found it an intriguing story because I wasn't really sure where it was going to go, which made it compelling. It's not very often that an avid reader gets a storyline that they can't see the likely outcome of. Birch writes the supernatural happenings in a way that is very believable - the way people react and behave felt like the way I might myself, if caught in a ghostly situation. to Anthy] I understand now too. Why you sought me, and why I didn’t reject you. We were together in killing in the prince. No Export for You: Zigzagged with the show and Adolescence of Utena, as explained above under Keep Circulating the Tapes. Played straight with the Sega Saturn game and the light novels, although fan translations do exist for those to one degree or another. Fantasy Kitchen Sink: Apparently not only this is a world of Cthulhu Mythos but also vampires, werewolves and aliens. And Lovecraft was a part of organization dedicated to pass the knowledge how to fight them to the rest of humanity, masked as a fiction.
