The Evoke Play is not only very smart in its format, but also a smart radio. As such, the Evoke Play is ready for any reception quality, combining traditional analogue radio (FM), digital radio (DAB) and Internet connectivity for an even more reliable and robust listening experience. A smart radio offers more options, more robust radio reception, on-demand audio streaming of podcasts and the ability to easily make sure the device stays up to date with updates. In the unlikely case of poor FM/DAB+ signals, the Evoke Play is prepared with over 85,000 Internet radio stations and podcasts from around the world via through Internet connection. The alarm works well, is very easy to set up and as the speaker was connected to my network, the automated date and time were spot on, there was never any delay or drop in accuracy. I like that I was able to set weekday only, so I could leave the alarm on for the week and not have to worry about it going off at the weekend or forgetting to set it Sunday night ready for Monday. Snoozing and turning the alarm off were fine.

Now onto the important part and that’s the audio quality. With the Pure brand and the 100W output, we had high hopes of excellent audio quality but what we found was a real mixed bag. The volume ranges from 0-32 and across all the sources the audio quality is decent with good, clean and crisp vocals, nice bass level and a reasonable soundstage. Playing a CD is significantly louder at the same volume level as other sources. The bass and treble can be altered via the menu.
