Die zahlreichen tollen, großen, 2-farbigen Illustrationen vom Autor selbst, fügen sich gut in den Text ein und bereichern ihn. Diese und die kurzen Kapitel lassen einen gut auf ein Lesezeichen verzichten und man findet schnell die zu letzt gelesene Seite wieder. Auch mit den zahlreichen weiteren Charakteren hat mich Rob Biddulph gänzlich überzeugen können. Ob die vielen liebenswerten Gestalten oder die Bösewichte – alle wurden sie fabelhaft ausgearbeitet und machen das Lesen mit ihren verschiedenen Persönlichkeiten und Besonderheiten zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis. Die Figuren in diesem Buch habe ich richtig geliebt, sie besitzen teils so herrlich skurrile Eigenarten und sind einfach nur einzigartig. I love Peanut Jones!’ Peanut musste von ihrer alten Schule auf eine absolut grauenhafte Schule mit Abertausend Regeln wechseln und ist dementsprechend froh, die Chance auf ein Abenteuer zu haben, als sie den magischen Bleistift findet. Sie ist kreativ, schlau (auch, wenn sie das nicht unbedingt zeigen möchte) und eine gute Anführerin.

Die Kombination aus Text und Illustrationen ist einfach genial! Als wir das Buch zum ersten Mal in der Hand hatten, haben wir sofort durch die phantasievollen Illustrationen geschmökert. Erst danach haben wir mit der Lektüre begonnen, da man von den Illustrationen alleine nicht auf die Handlung schließen konnte. Je remarque aussi que nous avons encore des jeunes géniaux avec des adultes d'intelligence moyenne. Curieux cette façon de ne jamais pouvoir concilier les deux groupes d'âge sur cette question.Biddulphs besondere Stärke waren vor allem die vielen kreativen Ideen bezüglich Worldbuilding, Handlungsverlauf und Charaktere. Interessant fand ich dabei, wie der Einfluss von Chroma auf unsere Welt und andersrum geschildert wurde. Das Glossar am Ende des Buches beinhaltete dann noch einmal zusätzliches Wissen zu Kunst usw. und reicherte die Geschichte mit noch mehr Hintergründen an. Die Erzählung und die Charaktere sind sehr liebevoll. Es wird gezeigt wie wichtig Freundschaft und Familie sind und dass Freundlichkeit einen oft weiter bringt. Kreativität wird als wichtiger Bestandteil des Lebens betont. Das ist eine Botschaft, die der Autor auch während der Pandemie mit kostenlosen Zeichenkursvideos für Kinder unterstützt hat.
