My precious child, When you confess your sins, I am faithful and just and will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. In repentance and resting in Me is your salvation, in quietness and trusting Me is your strength. I will create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. I will not send you away from My presence, and I will not take My Holy Spirit from you. I will restore again the joy of your salvation, and make you willing to obey Me. Then you will teach My ways to sinners, and they will return to Me also. Humble yourself, therefore, under My mighty hand, that I may lift you up at the right time. But I think he overstates his case on this one. I’ve previously suggested the “Bible as love letter” analogy as one of the options with something positive to contribute to how Christians relate to the Bible.
Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, and He took the same means of escape that is available to us—obedience to God's Word (Matthew 4:1–11; Hebrews 5:8). Temptation is not sin; yielding to temptation is. There is always a righteous choice to be made if we are willing to seek it. My precious child I have set up circumstances and situations in your life to cause you to seek Me and find Me. I desire that you know Me. I am The Lord your God, full of compassion, and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But My precious child glory in this, That you understand and know Me, That I am the LORD, exercising compassion, lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight and take pleasure. Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? I long to have a relationship with you. I crave closeness; I want you to be transparent with me and try, every day, to bring yourself and others to my light.
Father’s Love Letter Pulled From Scripture
If I could make you look into my eyes, if I could let you see the way I look at you, you would be so liberated. He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Read and re-read this love letter from God, to give the words the chance to go beyond your mind and reach the depths of your heart… Then the truth will set you free. If you need a victory in your life, begin every day by renewing your faith in Christ in whom all our victories are to be realized.
Kierkegaard gave us a good example, in my opinion, of such a limited use. Here’s what he says in For Self-Examination:That’s just when God appeared to him as he was among the exiles by the Kebar River. Ezekiel looked up and saw remarkable visions of God—the throne of God surrounded by angelic beings. Amid the strange and apocalyptic vision described in Ezekiel 1, God called the thirty-year-old exile to be a powerful prophet. The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3
