About this deal

If the orchid is in bloom, wait until the flowers have faded and fallen off. Then, carefully remove the bract (a small, leaf-like structure) that covers the node using a sterile knife or scissors. First, locate a node on the orchid flower stem. Run your hands along the stalk and you'll feel a bump every couple inches. These bumps are the nodes. They look a bit like joints where the stalk merges together. There are several nodes on each flower stem and each node should work with keiki paste.

If it is a keiki, within a few weeks you should see the bud swell, then leaves and roots gradually develop. When growing orchids, it can take 2 to 8 weeks before you notice growth on the orchid stem. This is true whether you are trying to grow orchids from pseudobulbs, stem cuttings, or stimulate keiki growth. It can take another year before your new orchid has grown big enough to be planted on its own. The main thing for which the flower growers appreciate the drug is the ability to accelerate cell division and regulate metabolism by stimulating the synthesis of amino acids. Thus, it is possible to awaken “dormant” growth and flower buds, make the flower grow faster, make flowering longer and more abundant, even prolong the existence of aging and dying shoots and give the plant the desired shape by growing shoots where necessary. Also, the drug is indispensable for the resuscitation of a plant that has suffered from mistakes made by a florist when caring for it. Next, fill up the container with some sphagnum moss, or fine-grade orchid potting medium. Water it well. Next, with sterilized scissors or pruners, cut the spike from an inch above and below the keiki. (Yes, leaving it attached to a piece of the spike)Select your orchid flower spike, making sure you choose one that has multiple nodes along the spike. Using a sterilized blade, cut the flower spike close to the base, where it meets the orchid plant. First we need to locate a node on the orchid flower stem. If you run your hands along the stalk you'll feel a bump every couple inches. These bumps are the nodes and they look kind of like joints where the stalk merges together. There are several nodes on each flower stem and each node should work with keiki paste. In my experience nodes closer to the base of the plant are more likely to result in a keiki while nodes closer to the flowers are more likely to result in a new flower stalk so choose one, two (or three) nodes based on what your ideal outcome is. Keikis can occur when the mother plant is struggling. By creating a keiki, it has a chance to survive even if the mother plant dies. The keiki doesn’t die with the mother plant, because it is a functioning individual plant with its own leaves and roots. Orchids produce tiny seeds, which can then be used to grow new orchid plants. In the wild, these seeds require the help of a certain fungus to germinate. The fungus provides the nutrition needed for germination. The seeds themselves do not have stored nutrients and cannot germinate on their own. Orchid propagation from seeds is notoriously very difficult for orchid growers and not often done. How Long Does Orchid Propagation Take?

The clear plastic bag will help trap in some of the moisture. It will also maintain high humidity levels for the stem cuttings, while still allowing light to pass through. Place the stem section into the medium when potting a Keiki, and arrange the roots downward. The leaves and most of the roots should remain above the medium. Press the medium around the stem to secure the keiki, but do not damage the roots. After potting, water the Keiki well and place it in a location with bright, indirect light. If a plant develops a new peduncle, fertilizers are used containing phosphorus and potassium and a minimum of nitrogen. On the other hand, when offspring appear, nitrogen is more important. There is no need to increase the watering of the orchid. Keep a close eye on the condition of the soil in the pot, not allowing it to dry out or turn into a swamp. Once the keiki’s roots are at least 2 or 3 inches long, and you see at least two leaves, you can separate it. Cut the mother orchid’s stem 1 inch above and 1 inch below the keiki plant. Sometimes keiki growth on orchids is spontaneous and unpredictable. Healthy orchids can produce keiki offshoots as a response to excess growth hormones. Other times, keiki production in an orchid can be a sign that your orchid plant is dying. In that case, producing an offspring is one of the last things it will do.

What is it?

Lay each section in damp sphagnum moss. Keep the moss damp while the stem sections root. Covering the potting tray with plastic wrap can encourage high humidity, which is helpful in orchid growth. The newer growth point, however, started to grow almost instantly and has produced a new leaf and is growing further. Boosts the Chances of Propagation: Keiki paste facilitates the propagation of orchids by promoting the growth of Keiki. This keiki can be separated from the parent plant and potted individually, giving rise to new orchid plants.
