About this deal

a b c d "Eric Carle, Author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dies at 91". The New York Times. May 26, 2021.

The result is an array of books that are much more than the simple text within them. They are masterpieces in their own right, and for millions of children around the world, probably their very first introduction to the world of art. This isn’t to underplay the significance of the prose – those words teach kids that actions have consequences (The Very Hungry Caterpillar), change isn’t that bad (A House for Hermit), do what you love (Walter the Baker), being nice is better (The Grouchy Ladybug), focus on your work and put in your best, and the result will be there for everyone to see (The Very Busy Spider). That’s such a lovely thought, isn’t it? Since you’re anyway looking at things, you might as well look at good, lovely stuff that makes your face light up and your heart sing. That’s probably why Eric Carle, the master illustrator of kids’ books, made all his pictures so captivating for audiences of all ages. For the most part, this collection of art, autobiography, essays, and photographs was written and constructed rather well. It is an agreeable overview of Carle's life and work, a consideration of the genesis of his ideas, a look at how he fashions his collages, and admiring words from some of his colleagues. This is our third story time in this six-week series where we are building the theme on various aspects of the Carle classic "hungry caterpillar".

Eric Carle, creator of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar,' turns 90". DW.COM. June 25, 2019 . Retrieved September 21, 2019. Carle wrote and/or illustrated more than 75 books, sometimes partnering with Bill Martin Jr or other authors, but most with Carle working alone. One of his last books was 2015’s The Nonsense Show, which centred on a parade of flying fish, cat-taming mice and circus animals. Eric Carle is a wonderful illustrator, one of the most creative and original artists in the realm of children's literature of any era. This book is part-biography, part-autobiography, part-survey of his life, style, and influence. It is comprised mostly of essays about the artist and his work by his editors, publishers, and others who have journeyed with him, though Carle himself writes a rather lengthy life-story as well as a rambling transcription of a talk he gave about creativity and inspiration. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, published in 1969, was welcomed by parents and children with its story of the metamorphosis of a green and red caterpillar with a touch of blue and brown to a proudly multi-coloured butterfly. Using a selected book in a number of consecutive preschool storytimes by presenting it differently each time can help children learn new skill sets.

Father’s Daymay be over, but this is one book that doesn’t need a special occasion! Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me is a delightful story of a girl and her father, and kids who’ve read the story will love making this craft from My Adventures in Positive Space. It features a smiley moon, a ladder and a Dad trying to climb up to reach the moon! Ulaby, Neda (June 12, 2019). "A Very Happy 50th Birthday To 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' ". National Public Radio.
