The most fraught and intriguing of the various plotlines, however, involves a Catholic-led indoctrination school for Indigenous girls. It is also by far the hardest to watch – the sadistic nun Sister Mary (Jennifer Ehle) beats young Teonna (Aminah Nieves); the even more menacing Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) beats them both. How much violence inflected on Indigenous characters is too much to drive the point home? What is the line for humiliation, however based in devastating historical fact? A question I’m concerned about for later episodes. Given Yellowstone’s dubious record on gratuitous violence against Indigenous female characters, I have more faith in Nieves’s performance, anchoring and undaunted in just a handful of scenes, than in the show’s handling of forced assimilation. Beyond that, we have Cara chasing after a man, aiming to kill him with a shotgun – although to be fair, I’m not sure who the man is, then son Spencer (Brandon Sklenar), a former World War I soldier, now hunting leopards and lions in Nairobi, Africa, also referring to the former creature as “a leopard the sized of a sofa”. Would they really use that word 100 years ago?

As viewers may remember, the final episode of season 1 ended in a battle between Hank ( Michael Greyeyes) and Teonna Rainwater ( Aminah Nieves). While Teonna survived the scuffle, it will be sometime before folks learn if she managed to escape her boarding school and not get caught by those looking for her.

A lot of the time, it’s a bunch of poeple shouting at each other, except Harrison Ford who just “GRRRRRR”s a lot.
