The lessons he used from his military were amazing and things you can use in your own life even if you aren't climbing Everest. Purja shows how leadership, integrity, and collaboration drive world's greatest climbing feats, including the first-ever winter ascent of Pakistan’s K2—another mountaineering milestone that he achieved in January 2021. He was leading from the front and putting in the legwork (trailblazing/fixing ropes) himself on the mountains.

Even though his first climb had some problems, he was very interested in pursuing this activity, and eventually got on a G200E team trying the climb in 2017. Indrani Dutta reviews Beyond Possible: One Soldier, Fourteen Peaks - My Life in the Death Zone, by Nimsdai Purja".

He became the first Gurkha to join the Special Boat Service, via a selection process for which he trained with more night runs, gym sessions, swimming thousands of kilometres, going to bed at midnight, only to get up at 2am to do it all again. But even after facing countless challenges, right at the peak of my achievements, my world fell apart when my mother was hospitalised. Purja was the only team member to summit without the use of supplemental oxygen, becoming the first person to do so in winter.Young readers who love action and adventure will love this autobiography of Nimsdai Purja with his pursuit to climb all fourteen death zone mountains. The world had known about Nimsdai's superhuman feat in October 2019 ,but what the world had not known was all the effort, pain and setbacks Nims and his team endured to make Project possible a success. Nepali climber Nims Purja is the first man ever to summit all fourteen of the world’s 8000 meter “Death Zone” peaks.

what nimsdai did is amazing, if you've watched the Netflix documentary this book adds whole lot more about Nimsdais internal thoughts and motivation for projects possible. Excerpts and links may be used, provided that full and clear credit is given to Helen Murdoch and Helen's Book Blog with appropriate and specific direction to the original content.I always love a good mountaineering story and admire the perseverance required to accomplish those climbs. Purja pulled off the absolutely insane feat of climbing all fourteen 8000 meter peaks on this planet in just over six months. Für mich ist Nims' Buch einfach eine großartige Ergänzung gewesen und ich habe seine Stationen noch einmal ohne Bewegtbild dazu nachverfolgt. As someone who came to mountain climbing later in life (around age 30), he discovered he has an amazing lung capacity and could naturally climb more quickly and easily than others.

In a book focusing about the record-breaking feats, the exclusion of details of some of these mountains made me quite sad. Not only does Nims have exceptional physical stamina, he's also a leader with great skills in financial management and logistics. What is strange is that this book does seem to be all about him whereas it would have been more interesting with some fleshing out: describing the team, the climbs, the scenery, etc. apart from emmersing myself mountain climbing story it helped to visualise how achieving anything in life is not dissimilar to climbing harsh mountains: plan, prepare, no step is a small step, dream big and keep going and reassess if nessesary but keep going and don't lie to yourself.
