About this deal

Laphroaig's unwavering focus on peat and its daringly bold expressions have solidified its place as an iconic name among whisky connoisseurs who seek the ultimate Islay peated experience.

This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present. This peated whisky is renowned for its bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.

They take several casks of normal ex Bourbon matured Laphroaig, that has been maturing for between 5 and 11 years, and vat them together before pouring them into Quarter casks (125 litres). It’s what layers notes of Manuka honey and grilled bacon onto our renowned flavours of peat smoke and seaweed.A distinctive character that still holds true to the spirit of Ian Hunter, who first created it over 75 years ago.

The use of the local peat, with its high moss content, contributes enormously to the flavour profile for which Laphroaig is so famous. Local water is sourced from the legendary Kilbride Stream, and the malted barley is cold-smoked then dried over a fire fuelled by the Islay peat. This single malt matures in charred ex-Bourbon barrels for a full decade before being bottled at its natural cask strength, preserving its powerful and distinctive flavors.
