We’ve seen Heston do this on Masterchef where he’s made a grand theatrical production out of making a hamburger or (ugh! This element creates a fun and approachable vibe around cooking, versus the strict and stressful nature of some recipe collections.The amazing awesomeness of this five star rating is shared equally by Dave McKean and Heston Blumenthal - I first came across McKean's work through Neil Gaiman, and didn't know he has been working more recently with Heston, and what a synergistic partnership this is. Incidentally, the cookbook is filled with colorful, delightful, illustrations, as well as beautiful, professional photographs of most of the dishes, making it difficult to decide which yummy dish to make next. Blumenthal’s restless exploration of technique and ingredients are the basis for his fame, arising from his Michelin 3-star restaurant The Fat Duck in the UK, and further explored in other restaurants.

Highly recommended - and definitely as a physical object where the amazing illustrations and the overall design of the book as an object can be appreciated. He has illustrated and designed several children's books, eight with Neil, Coraline , The Wolves in the Walls,The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish , Varjak Paw with S. Unlike some of the complicated techniques in molecular gastronomy, this book is definitely achievable for the home cook and most recipes are easy to make. Book designers need to remember that we have an ageing population, and we have new generations with compromised eyesight because of all their screen time. It’s rare that any cookbook gets a full rotation in our kitchen, but with this one, the simplicity of the recipes and the resulting flavours really captured the love of cooking and eating with (if the coronation chicken is anything to go by) remarkable results.A book with interesting ideas, and humour, and one that brings the celebrity chef alive on the page. One of the books that most influenced him was On Food and Cooking by Harold McGee, which questioned the fundamental rules of the kitchen and explored the science of cooking.

It’s certainly refreshing to find a chef without an enormous ego that has to be on display at all times. I remember on my first trip to France, seeing a tin of choc-coated crickets, and thinking the same thing.I enjoy the stories and the theory behind what he does and while I may not follow his recipes to the nth degree I have been inspired by many recipes and incorporated some of his tricks - edible sand, sounds of the sea etc. The recipes are written in the traditional straightforward manner with the ingredients listed first followed by succinct instructions. I have enjoyed watching Heston’s food extravaganzas on TV in the past and this book offered the same level of engagement and enjoyment. The first time we tasted the Lemon Tart Recipe in this book changed forever the idea of what a lemon tart is for us. However, home chefs need not shy away as the recipes are more likely to provoke the palate than culinary skills.
