However, while Stansbury-O’Donnell and Tuck have expended considerable effort in offering new perspectives on the traditional, linear approach that is so often the organizing principle in Greek and Roman survey texts, this reviewer does not believe that either author has succeeded as well as one would have hoped: in one work, there is too much; in the other, too little. John Boardman here explores Greek art as a foreign art transmitted to the non-Greeks of antiquity - peoples who were not necessarily able to judge the meaning of Greek art and who may have regarded the Greeks themselves with great hostility.

Includes plans of unfinished marble older Parthenon and Older Propylon, both of which are generally considered post- Marathon. Others transfer the skills and knowledge they develop with us to careers in teaching, journalism, cultural management, or the financial sector.

Suitable for students with no prior knowledge of ancient art, this textbook reviews the main objects and monuments of the ancient Greek world, emphasizing the context and function of these artefacts in their particular place and time.
