About this deal

Teaming up with Farmer Rich, a seventh-generation fruit and vegetable farmer, we’ve tested a wide range of bypass, anvil and ratchet pruning shears, looking for those that deliver across the board. The difference in holding these smaller handles was night and day, regarding how much leverage you can have when cutting thicker branches or stems. Value for money: Focussed on the quality of the secateurs, any special features and warranty and RRP. For reference, we tested each pruner with two gardeners with small (6 ½ x 3 inches) and average-sized (7 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches) hands.

Made from stainless steel, this tool uses a clever scissor action to make sharp, clean cuts to reduce any damage to your plants, making gardening easier. Designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising “commission Income” by advertising and linking to qualified purchase’s. Niwaki came up again when we asked Milena Mackowiak, florist and founder of Stems Wilder in Brixton Village, what the best secateurs would be for trimming more delicate plant stems. One blade is sharpened on the edge, while the other is thicker and unsharpened to produce a precise, clean cut. Ideal for deadheading, trimming, shaping on trees, roses, annuals, vegetables, flower gardens, bonsai, and other plants. Each squeeze of the handle drives the blade further down towards the anvil until the stick cuts through. The biggest difference between the two is that secateurs are smaller, used for trimming plants and branches, and held in just one hand.

Blade Catch - This holds the blades shut when not in use, to make sure they're safe when transporting and storing. The Felco – F-2 was our top choice because it made pruning branches a comfortable and easy experience. The Felco – F-6 is best for smaller hands because the shorter size is more ergonomic and safer to use. We reviewed ten bypass pruners and thinning scissors over three months to see which brands and tools worked best. The tool has a wide cutting width which is useful on larger stems, although the handles were also quite large which made it trickier to handle.

The safety catch is on the top of the handle and easy to switch on or off with a flick of the thumb. A replacement spring is included in your purchase and they come in a choice of sizes, including small, regular and large and for both left and right handed gardeners.

As for durability, their high-carbon steel blades are designed to stay sharper for longer, even with extensive use. As mentioned earlier, each of the pruners featured in our best pruning shears list were hand tested by an experienced farmer while pruning fruit trees and ornamentals. Anvil pruners have a double-edged top knife that slices into a stationary base blade and is best for cutting dead branches or stems. These clippers have eight adjustable grip sizes that are supposed to help with hand fatigue and make the pruning experience more comfortable.

Having said that, the unrivaled hardened steel blade still makes this one of the best pruning shears, and it’s ideal for quick and small jobs.
