We love taking on the role of a detective to piece together the clues and evidence to catch the wrongdoer. If you are a fan of tower defense, rogue-like, or deckbuilding games, Heretic’s Fork is definitely worth checking out! If you’re looking to inject a little murder into your family (or friend) game nights (maybe you’re, I don’t know, annoyed by that one person who always double dips their chips), look no further than Ghosted, a new whodunnit board game from Big G Creative.
After everyone has been given the tools of their deaths, the remaining cards are shuffled into one giant deck and equally distributed to all players. The game has a fun sense of humor, with the motives being absurd and often amusing, and it’s a nice touch that each player is trying to solve their own unique combination of cards. As one delves further into the dungeon, harder choices force the character into more desperate acts. My friends and I had fun playing this, although I suspect I had more fun than they did (and not just because I won! Again the weapons are a mix of old and new such as witch’s potion, slingshot, selfie stick and power washer.
The psychological distress revved up very convincingly, with the characters’ paranoia escalating in ways that made sense internally.It also helped that it was an easy game to play on the Steam Deck, despite it not being created with the Steam Deck in mind. The evidence boards are already constructed in the box so literally all you need to do is take the wrapping off the cards and the game is ready to play. This token gives the player a choice of which die action they want the next time an unusable die face is rolled. With rogue-like elements, you are able to unlock new cards and characters by completing goals, using coins, or finding secrets. I really like that each player is working on finding the answers to their specific card combinations sitting in front of them.
When the option is one of the guessed two, you pick one of the other players and pick two items from the list.
Scales of Justice symbol – you can guess one weapon, one suspect and one motive and the other players can tell you how many you have got correct – but not which ones! Without looking at them, they put them on their game board so that all the other players can see them. The first player that correctly guesses the suspect, weapon and motive for their demise wins (either by final accusation or scales of justice) and becomes the ‘afterlife of the party! Since players know three items already from each of the other players at the beginning, they start with a leg up.
