A while back I purchased Genki 1, 2nd edition; however I never really got around to going through it (I blame school). You like a comprehension orientated approach to language learning (detailed, easy to understand grammar explanations). Lastly, audio aids which were previously sold separately, have been included on an mp3 audio CD, ready to install on any music player. Do you guys agree with the guide on Tofugu that I should wait till around level 10 Wanikani to start something like Genki? This book builds on the foundation laid by the first volume and will take you up to a level equivalent to JLPT N4.Lastly, audio aids which were previously sold separately, now can be downloaded for free from the publisher's site. I used the 3rd edition, but if I had bought the 2nd I personally wouldn’t bother to purchase a new one for the sole purpose of “prettier” layout and a few updates here and there. The trick with textbooks like Genki is, they don’t actually use Kanji on page 1, because they expect you no to know any yet, so you should be fine to start early. This workbook contains questions on the kanji and Japanese grammar elements studied during the second textbook lessons of the third edition of GENKI. The textbook is packed with useful information and interesting exercises, while the workbook is perfect for practice and review.

Aside from money, the only other reason to go for the 2nd edition is if you are using online tools that haven’t been updated for the 3rd edition yet.With questions on the most important elements studied during the second textbook lessons, this workbook will help you improve your understanding of the language. At least for me the books were quite expensive, so in my case it wouldn’t be worth it to expend even more, as from what I’ve read the 2nd edition is still great!
