There is also an LGBTQ+ character and though I didn’t really love how their sexuality was revealed to the other characters, and I cannot comment on the accuracy of the representation, we do love a diverse cast! Twelve is full of anger and the way she treats her fellow students is a result of this anger and it was this aspect of her personality that made it hard to warm to her at first, but the book was easy to read and as the story progresses Twelve’s past is revealed in bits and you see why she’s a character so filled with anger and hatred, making you sympathise with her more.

This book takes a closer look at ripening fruits, buzzing bees, summer storms and the solstice as the secrets of summer begin to appear in the world around us.The ending hints at the possibility of future books, and I’m excited to see where Twelve’s adventures take her next! Instead the world is built alongside the story and we’re gradually introduced to the clans and their history, the role of the Hunters, witches, magic, Ygrex, Cliffcrawlers, Deathspinners, and the threat of the Dark Wars.

I’d heard such great things about this book from friends and on social media so I couldn’t wait to pick it up and read it. There is also so much unknown about the characters’ past and connections that I’ve been dying to find out seeing as they’re not aloud to talk about it at all. An enchanting quest, filled with mystical creatures, talking trees and goblins galore, this is such a fast paced read. Some because they are not wanted by their families or their clans or they are seeking the power that the Lodge offers, but every child in the Lodge is there for a reason. Set in the world of Ember children from various clans end up living at the hunting lodge and training to become hunters to protect every clan from the monsters that threaten the world.When she decides to find her friend who was taken during an attack on their training facilities, Twelve shows a lot of loyalty and perseverance.
