The Symingtons had a stake in the company early in the twentieth century and became sole owners in 1961. The grapes are normally extremely ripe at the time of picking giving spice and pepper to balance the dark chocolate flavours, as found in all Bomfim Ports.

This 2013 Vintage Port Wine; Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira is set in the remote, hot and dry Douro Superior and commands a magnificent north bank position. They will tend to mature a little earlier than the very rare ‘Declared’ years, but can be every bit as good as some other Vintage Ports.

The current generation’s great grandfather, Andrew James Symington, took ownership of the Quinta in 1912 when he became a shareholder in Dow's, which had originally acquired the property in 1890. The Symington family brings the legacy of creating intense and tannic concentrated wines with the DOW wines, which age elegantly and are scented with mint and violet aromas. When young Quinta do Bomfim wines are austere, complex and concentrated with very fine peppery tannins. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. This 2011 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's is "very inky in hue, this is very tight indeed, with classic Dow dryness/austerity – firm tannins and a yet to be mined concentrated seam of minerals, black currant, berry and cherry.
