Coming in just short of eight minutes, Let It Happen traverses a swag of sonic terrain in its duration. The first track from the record to be unveiled, Let It Happen, is a perfectly encapsulating preview of what lies ahead.

There are some gems on this album: The Moment, Yes I'm Changing, Eventually, New Person, Same Old Mistakes (Rihanna covered this one). The 13 track album, Currents was written, recorded, produced and mixed by Kevin Parker in Fremantle, West Australia. I first caught onto this group after hearing Let It Happen and hadn't felt so excited about a song for a very long time.

Even with a little blemish on the beginning of my side D I was worried about -- somehow, sounded fine! The drums and Parker’s vocal introduction lull the listener with a sense of familiarity, until it all sweeps up into a cosmos once populated only by French robots, with insistent melody, broken machine loops, synthetic orchestration, surfing vocoder and a shredding guitar outro. Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands. You can hear The Kinks, you can sense The Smiths and a love of the 60s but most of all you can hear The Arctic Monkeys. Yeah, is a surreal, funky, profane, and perversely joyous album, overflowing with casual eclecticism and giddy humour.

Working with a band that is looser and grittier than the Mondays, Shaun Ryder sounds reinvigorated, creating. The recording is on 180gm vinyl and whether or not it improves sound quality the product feels a lot more durable than some of LP's that I bought in the past, especially in the 80's when most seemed to be on cheapy 'floppy' vinyl. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.

By and large Kevin Parker's approach to recording has not, though the sound coming out of his home studio has vastly expanded, as has the number of people anticipating the fruits of his labour. I have some favorite songs like "The moment" and "Reality in motion", but the whole album sounds like experiment, which is great, I like experiments, but some unreleased songs I heard. Parker has said Currents' designs are based on a diagram of vortex shedding he remembered while trying to visualize the album's themes.

Transitions in life, relationships, perspectives, mindsets - Currents maps Parker's evolution through these and finds him a brand new person. Kevin Parker, the musician behind Tame Impala, explained that Currents is about the process of personal transformation. Tame Impala's third album is titled 'Currents', and on it Parker addresses a blindingly colourful panorama of transition in the most audacious, adventurous fashion he's yet to capture on record. It's a blend that re-casts the band as baked, inter-dimensional travellers with a neat line in enveloping, sun-kissed downtempo pop.
