About this deal

Some parts of this book also made me slightly uncomfortable, especially the scene with Avery, Cass and Finn (I won’t spoil it) but it was completely unnecessary in my opinion and the author added it in for shock factor but in reality it actually did more harm than good. The beginning of this book was the FMC being dumped by her ex because he wasn’t satisfied with their sex life.

I absolutely loved the Love, Me and the 303 Series by Kay Cove and when she announced she was looking for ARC readers for her standalone novel, Camera Shy, I freaking RAN to apply. Honestly this is such a personal gripe I know and I’m sure this worked for some, but I couldn’t stand it at all. When an opportunity to pet and house sit for the summer in Las Vegas for a client of hers presents itself, Avery jumps at the chance to get away from Mason and think through everything. What follows is a friends to lovers, super spicy, fun banter, find yourself romance with some serious swoony moments! It was the easiest thing to read because it was spicy, romantic, funny and relatable, especially for any girlie (or guy) with insecurities. A body positive, neighbors-to-lovers romance about a curvaceous beauty who strikes an unlikely bargain with the handsome photographer next door. I also really appreciated how Kay tended to avoid describing Averys body type in too much detail, allowing us to picture her however we wanted (or in my case, self insert my own body type). Kay, a former HR professional (survivor), startup junkie, and former CEO of the teeniest, tiniest virtual assistant company, has been writing pretty much forever. Not only does he dump Avery, he keeps digging the knife in deeper and deeper, every word a crack in Avery’s crumbling self-confidence.

Y’all the steam in this book is *chefs kiss* and had me SWEATING 🥵😮‍💨 Finn’s mouth was so dirty and I freaking LOVED it. It was so good to read about a heavier girl and that, yes, very hot guys can fall head over heels for heavier girls. There is a lot of spice in this book, it is after all focused on Avery asking Finn for sex lessons soooooo it should be expected. This is my favorite by far from Kay Cove and that's saying a lot because I loved her last series so much! Kay created Avery, the FMC, with insecurities that really hit home for me and because of that, I connected so deeply with the story and the FMC.But will they be able to keep their emotions out of it, and keep from falling in love before the summer ends and Avery leaves? What I didn't see coming was my boyfriend and business partner dumping me because he couldn't bear the idea of our bland sex life for the rest of our lives. Decides that she will take up her client friend on an offer to take care of his fish for the summer while he’s away on vacation. After her ex telling her the reason he wanted to break up was because of her being boring in the bedroom and bad at sex, added to the fact that she’s plus size woman uncomfortable with her body, she feels terrible about herself. She thinks he’s going to propose – it’s not like she accidently found the ring in the drawer or anything – and is ready.

Did we really need a cheater move in a story about a woman healing from the trauma of the action’s of a cheater? As a plus size girly I am very much in love with my body, but the kind of insecurities and self deprication THIS book described was hitting where it hurts and opened something in my heart. Camera Shy by Kay Cove begins on the FMC Avery’s 30th birthday, her golden year, according to the waitress at the fancy restaurant her long-term boyfriend Mason took them out to to celebrate. Then Finn and Avery become neighbors and he is tutoring her how to feel better about her body while sleeping together.

Finn walks in and finds them and Avery, in her mind-boggled desperation to be what Finn wants, or what she thinks he wants (PLEASE JUST COMMUNICATE), tries to start a threesome. It’s a rally for body positivity, but it’s much more than that, too — it’s about learning to pick yourself, accept your imperfections, cut toxic people out of your life, and cultivate solid and healthy relationships. Seriously we first meet him hyping up a 70yr old women during a photoshoot and the way he speaks to her will make you swoon. Not to mention these two are fucking in this rich guys house that’s shes house sitting for and they bone against the fish tank and Avery ends up killing one of the fishes. It had cute moments and it is really spicy and even besides all of the things I mentioned, at some point I was considering giving 4 stars bcs I was in a good mood, BUT the last 20% of the book.

E pra quem tem problemas em encontrar livros com mulheres de auto estima baixa, achei ele fantástico. And then we got Finn our hero who is a dreamy ripped 6 ft hung like an elephant Adonis who is also a humble loving man and falls at first sight for the heroine and wants to be with her for eternity and worship her like no other man in her life yadda yadda BORING.I HATE the catty jealous trope in books and it happened with every single woman except for his cousin in this book. She finally decided at age thirty to start writing the stories she loves to read and to actually share the novels she poured countless hours, tears, sweat, and coffee into. This reads like self insertion, like it’s everything the author wants for herself which is a massive yikes. And all throughout the book, the more you get to know the characters, the more there is to them than just the obvious. I’m glad I read ahead because MMC used to have threesomes with his ex (Nora) with their (his) friend Cass every year on Cass’ birthday.
