In just a few steps, turn the runway into Overair and the crane into Ironworks, both big enough to create a playset that can carry four included Micromasters! Overair is a new-to-USA character based on the USA's airport base with Airwave, but in new colors and using Selects Hot House as the base. Last but not least, this all comes together really well with Sky Lynx, as the new colors are meant to compliment Sky Lynx’s base mode. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. And the fact that Sky Blast can be carried on top of Payload or docked in Astroscope's satellite mode fits right in with what this set is doing.
They're a little less colorful, but are good enough updates of the originals that I assume Micromasters dabblers will love it, the purists will hate it, and most people have no idea if this is a new guy or not because to them G1 ended in 1987.
Nothing's perfect, but it's close enough - I can't imagine they're going to take another crack at Micromasters in the next several years without a breakthrough in manufacturing. The comet on which Botropolis was located was part of the Solar System, meaning that Earth would one day be a candidate for Go-Bot protection. If you bought the previous molds, these are just as good - although I do find the colors to be more pleasing on this release. You can customize the layout however you like, but I decided to go with this one, as the base positions would seem better and more fortified. It is some repaints, but it is a very very good set, great decos and the added booster rocket accessory is very nice to have.
His gun has been replaced with a platform and a removable soft plastic missile that can also be put on his head. Like Missile Master, Moonrock could have been repainted into the final missing member of the Astro Squad, Barrage. Overair is named for the Japanese version of Airwave, but since he has the same color scheme as Airwave, Overair’s color scheme is all new. The could have made him a new character, but since there are no tech specs, what would have been the point?In this case it’s a much-simplified model of the real thing, where this would be a composite unit with a solid booster on the bottom half and a fuel tank in the upper. It doesn’t entirely tell the story, since it doesn’t resolve whether Sky Lynx eventually gets rescued. Overair, Ironworks and the Astro Squad are redeco'd to match the colour scheme of WFC-E24 Sky Lynx (sold separately, subject to availability). The bases can connect and you get a nice little space station with a place to launch the space shuttle - it's a pretty sensible combo platter of parts and pieces. The second-in-command of the Astro Squad, Fuzer is something of a perfectionist and triple checks everything before executing a mission. The base should have been bigger too, with at least one more base, perhaps another Airwave recolor to connect to Ironworks on the other side. Like previous releases, these are partsformers or building blocks - there are multiple base configurations for each, a swell robot mode, plus you could probably bolt these on to other toys as power-up parts or weapons if you so choose.
