About this deal

In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family. Their beliefs are so different and their societies so distanced that they don't know of the others' existence. I debated giving 4 or 5 stars for this review, because while I was absolutely enthralled by this book, I do feel like it's not quite as well-written or as strong of a story as The Priory.

Even mothers who mean well can do harm and on the opposite end of the scale, motherhood can also be used in toxic ways to 'own' a child. In the South, Tunuva is a warrior of the Priory, a sisterhood that worships the Mother who is seen as the true banisher of the Nameless One.However Shannon skilfully examines the issue from all perspectives and from a variety of different approaches to parenthood.

As I mentioned with the Republic of Carmentum, Hróth is another land we have not seen before, and (as a person who loves cold, icy lands) I treasured every moment inside of it. Shannon has taken the fantasy epic and breathed new life into it, allowing women's stories to take center stage where they belong, even in a world nothing like our own. And the always gut wrenching 'this is the world I must bring a child into' aspect told with nuance and empathy. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory’s purpose. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

I enjoyed A Day of Fallen Night even more than The Priory of the Orange Tree, it was such an incredible read. Because the world is swimming with Wyrms burning down cities and people, and the Councils and politicians want to sit down and discuss the future of the kingdoms! Samantha Shannon has mentioned that she has tentative plans for 5 in the Roots of Chaos series (one of which would be a direct sequel to priory tying all the prequels together) and I had a lot of fun speculating what other time periods we might get from this world. Having to put this book down was so hard, especially as it’s better in large chunks, so you can get fully into it! And Dumai, raised in a secluded mountaintop temple, is thrown into a dangerous world of courtly intrigue when she learns she’s the firstborn daughter of Jorodu, Emperor of Seiiki.A] fantasy trilogy in one volume, allowing for deep exploration of each protagonist as they navigate a brutal cataclysm. Deliveries to destinations outside Australia are made by DHL courier, and cannot be made to post office boxes. In a book with such an epic scope it's hard to find a place to start when reviewing, but I will nevertheless attempt explaining how infatuated I am with this book in my mere words. I’d have loved to see a love interest for Glorian (because she’s my bby), but there was too much happening right now!
