About this deal

Well, as with many of their beers, the naming comes from a more sentimental side of the Thornbridge brewers. The two currents, the old cask tradition and American-inspired craft beer, started coming back together.

Chemicals: Whilst the kit is complete you will need a good cleaner/steriliser like the Wineworks one. A relatively early example of an American West Coast IPA first brewed in the countryside of Derbyshire, it became one of the tentpole beers of the UK’s embrace of hoppy American ales. Its first beers appeared in February 2005, brewed on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. You could see their footprint in the use of Maris Otter malts for rich sweetness, and in heavy doses of hops like Chinook and Simcoe.NOTE: Equipment for fermentation/brewing and storage/dispensing is not included and should be bought separately. Shelf life: Long - The foil bag contained within the keg allows for a much longer shelf life than a normal beer keg, even when connected 6- 8 weeks. It looked to the US craft beer scene for its marvellously hoppy character, while the name comes from the Indian city with its famous pink walls (which is why the beer’s label is the same colour), where Thornbridge founders and owners Jim and Emma Harrison were married. The New England craze only seems to have spurred sales, and anyone worried about the decline of West Coast ideals could look to Jaipur for reassurance.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. He’d founded Thornbridge Brewery in one of the mansion’s outbuildings at the suggestion of his friend David Wickett, owner of Kelham Island Brewery, which had won Champion Beer of Britain with its Pale Rider American Pale Ale the summer before. Anyone familiar with the history of British craft beer will tell you, Jaipur by Thronbridge was the beer that changed everything. Craft breweries of Thornbridge’s vintage gingerly experimented in the American mode—big, boozy hop bombs. Produced here in Derbyshire, a carefully crafted smooth sipping gin that can be enjoyed neat, with an ice cube or two or with tonic and a juicy chunk .Information and statements about products are not intended to be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. With over 100 worldwide awards, this American style IPA has a complexity of flavours created by a six-dimensional hop experience. Craft breweries were definitely looking to the US as they made 7% IPAs with 75 IBUs of Cascade and Chinook hops. The trend today is this Mosaic- and Citra-dominated profile, which means any muppet can make IPA,” says Lovatt. Recognising that not only quality but consistency and innovation are key to creating amazing and beautifully balanced beer.

Jaipur left drinkers newly interested in hop profiles, drinkability, and even beer history as they pondered the difference between this strong beer with orange, pine and citrus-peel notes and the other primary IPA they knew: the 3. One of those brewers was a young Martin Dickie, who would later go on to co-found BrewDog with James Watt. We started with our classic salami ‘beer stick’ base of outdoor reared pork, garlic and white pepper and then added a blend of summer herbs (sage, parsley, rosemary and thyme) that have a perfect connection with the much loved tropical aromas of the Jaipur IPA. I can offer a bit of oral history here, because I remember the bloggers of the day spilling rapturous praise for Jaipur onto their digital pages. The rocky carbonation stiffens the hops’ spikier elements, which dominate the palate through to the swallow.

All sizes and measurements are approximate but we do try to make sure that they are as accurate as possible. It was an important moment in British brewing, as a new generation of beer drinkers found these breweries exciting in a way traditional ale breweries weren’t. If for any reason you are not happy with your purchase, or simply decide you no longer want the goods, we offer a 14 day money back guarantee. Not long after, Thornbridge Brewery moved out of its eponymous hall and to a site on the outskirts of the small market town of Bakewell, where it has been ever since. If you were going to cite one beer that helped break the dam on what cask beer should taste like, you could do a lot worse than Thornbridge Jaipur. To make that transition smooth, Webster employed Rob Lovatt, who had been working at Meantime Brewery as head brewer. Jaipur's hoppiness builds in the mouth and bursts with powerful citrus fruit flavours, culminating in a remarkably smooth finish and making it a deliciously drinkable IPA. The cask ale CAMRA reveres is made of characterful local malts, English hops, expressive yeast, and is brewed to a modest strength so that when served on cask it makes for an incredible session beer.
