The second novel by Everson, the 2012 Dead Space: Catalyst, is set two hundred and fifty years after the events of Martyr, where EarthGov decides to tamper with dangerous technology from the Black Marker in the hopes of saving humanity from an energy and resource crisis. In the first sequel, she and Isaac work together to escape the Titan Sprawl, and between the two games, they begin a romance.

Venture Beat reported in July that this revival was a remake of the first game, in the same vein as the Resident Evil 2 remake, and would be a relaunch of the franchise. Isaac succeeds in escaping with another survivor, Ellie Langford, before the explosive destruction of the station, and goes into hiding from EarthGov authorities as his mind still retains information about the Markers. Their twin approaches of early demos and aggressive internal promotion ran counter to Electronic Arts practises for new games at the time.The initial weapon is picked up during the first level, while others can be crafted using blueprints discovered in different levels. In a 2014 article concerning the series' later developments, Kotaku cited it as "one of the best horror games of the seventh generation of consoles". As Wright's performance was motion captured, this influenced Clarke's appearance and movement in the game. Other sound tools included "Creepy Ambi Patch", which acted as a multitrack organiser for the various sound layers and added randomised internal sounds to create a greater sense of dread; "Visual Effects", which incorporated sound effects naturally into the environment and to specific areas; and "Deadscript", a scripting language developed as a replacement for a sound language later used for Spore that was taking up too much space in the game's code.

Dead Space 3 received a less enthusiastic critical reception compared to its predecessors, though reviews are generally favorable. After approval, and using their experience creating the vertical slice, the team built eleven more levels in ten months.Volumetric fog effects and light shafts look fantastic and do a great job at adding a thick layer of atmosphere to USG Ishimura, and modern lighting techniques do wonders for how the game plays with light and dark to ratchet up the tension.
