About this deal

She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. Watching Laura and her friend Nina navigate to teenage hood and become interested in sex, boys and ‘growing up’ (well, in Nina’s case anyway), and I honestly can’t believe how quickly I eagerly devoured this book. The fact that no one really asked her how she got pregnant, and even she couldn’t recognise that she’d been assaulted shows how much things have changed but also in some ways, stayed the same. Wilson did an excellent job of framing Laura to the reader, so when the encounter with Leon happens, you truly believe she had no idea of what had just occurred.

i started reading it this afternoon and when i say it was unputdownable i literally mean that i read for 3 hours straight and finished it. In the last year I've found a love for YA books and I hope this year I will rekindle my love for more of Wilson's work.Premessa: Jaqueline Wilson e´ l´autrice che mi ha accompagnato per tutta la mia infanzia, quindi il mio giudizio e´ influenzato da il mio personale attaccamento nostalgico. I can’t understand how JW can completely understand teenage anxiety and make her characters come to life in such a fluid way. I also suspected that some of the language and sensitive topics that are addressed in the old books would also be a bit dated.

Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure!Windows users should also consider upgrading to Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, or switching to Firefox or Chrome.

When I was a kid I read a lot of books with the same ‘feel’ as this novel, so I thought the nostalgia factor was nice :) The story itself was just ok, it was a very even keeled book without many surprises. Trying to keep up with Nina gets increasingly difficult as they venture out to cafes and movies in their school holidays. I think teenagers reading this book will be shocked and surprised at the treatment young mothers received in this era, both from professionals and their own families. Baby Love is not suitable for Wilson’s more typical younger audience – it is an original piece whose characters will stick with you for a long time. As a teenager she started work for a magazine publishing company and then went on to work as a journalist on Jackie magazine (which she was told was named after her!Set in the 1960s, this compelling YA novel follows Laura, who finds herself pregnant at the age of 14. Reading Jacqueline's work again has really made me think about why we stop reading certain authors at specific ages. This book also ended by talking about the topic of consent and adoption, in partnership with two relevant charities. The disgust and judgement piled onto her from relatives and acquaintances made me empathise with anyone who actually had to go through something like this back in the day.
