About this deal

Not knowing what to tell her mother Mariel claims Oz is her new boyfriend to hide the fact he’s a demon after her soul. I loved the awkwardness of the relationship – what exactly does a witch do with a sexy demon that she’s summoned? Berkley Publishing Group and Sarah Hawley provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. While the cliche of 'witch summons sexy demon and, of course, they fall in love ' can get boring after a while, I read this in one sitting so don't let the stars deter you.

Sarah Hawley lives in the Pacific Northwest, where her hobbies include rambling through the woods and appreciating fictional villains. There were some basic editing issues, with names being in lowercase or spaces between words missing a few times.

But Ozroth has a limited amount of time to strike the deal, and if Mariel gives up her soul, she’ll lose all her emotions – including love – which will only spell disaster for them both. I completely understand that he was literally trying to steal her soul at the beginning but that dropped off super quickly and I’m probably just biased. Becoming awkward roommates quickly escalates when Mariel, terrified to confess the inadvertent summoning to her mother, blurts out that she’s dating Ozroth. I liked Oz more than Mariel, mainly because he attempted to stand up for her once he was subjected to how her family treated her and he was encouraging.

Like the time she tried to summon some flour to bake with, she inadvertently summoned a demon to make a bargain. The small-town-with-magic setting is just as charming as the characters and made me want to visit Glimmer Falls. I really enjoyed the characters, especially the way the main couple worked so well together and also the family dynamic was really quite something. Oz was such a contrast, cause I was waiting for him to be ruthless and unfeeling but he turned out to be such a vulnerable and sensitive man demon 🖤 . if you're looking for a warm, cozy, witchy romance: I suggest you keep looking because this book is definitely not it. I would have loved to have seen more of his denial or anger towards having gained emotions/having to deal with a witch with no control of her powers, but instead he was fighting attraction straight away and cleaning up her house.

She was always insulting and demeaning Oz, even though I didn't see anything that he did that would warrant this kind of behavior from her.I generally adore paranormal romcoms that are set in a modern world and this one is a great example! I feel that if a romance has to work, the least you can do is treat your partner with some respect and dignity. Mariel Spark knows not to trust a demon, especially one that wants her soul, but what's a witch to do when he won't leave her side - and she kind of doesn't want him to? As Ozroth and Mariel struggle with their opposing goals and maintaining a fake relationship, real attraction blooms between them.
