About this deal

RoboCop, from Orion Pictures, marked Flesh + Blood director Paul Verhoeven's Hollywood debut and instantly became an enduring sci-fi/action classic when it landed in theaters in the summer of 1987. Verhoeven's peerlessly exciting and kinetic visuals were matched by a sharp script, iconic cast and exceptional special effects by Rob Bottin (The Thing) and Phil Tippett (The Empire Strikes Back). Verhoeven has as much fun in this scene as Clarence, and this killing mirrors an earlier murder committed by the ED-209, a law-enforcement robot with Gatling-gun arms that’s unable to arrest without excessive force. Although this release is exactly the same as the previous Blu-ray in terms of packaging and special features the Dolby Vision present here makes a noticeable difference in terms of colour and contrast.

original, all presented in uncompressed DTS-HD Master Audio, in addition to a fresh, UHD exclusive Dolby Atmos track, itself sourced from the 4. I don’t have the technical knowhow to explain why this happens or if I’m just imagining it, but it’s not enough to sully an otherwise very impressive transfer, anyway. Much like in my review of Arrow’s 4K UHD release of An American Werewolf in London, do I really need to give a synopsis of Robocop?RoboCop, from Orion Pictures, marked director Paul Verhoeven's (Flesh + Blood) Hollywood debut and instantly became an enduring sci-fi/action classic when it landed in theaters in the summer of 1987. The usual suspects seem to be just as worked up over crime and the idea that the United States is going to hell as they were not only three years ago, but back in the 1980s too. Arrow's 4K release of Robocop comes in a number of different flavours - the Limited Edition boasting the now compulsory art cards and poster, but also a likely unmissable 80-Page Booklet packed with background information, images and interviews. Once RoboCop hits the streets, the film becomes one of the most disturbingly exhilarating of all action thrillers. The glare of several transfers (particularly in rendering RoboCop’s suit) has been reduced; the silvers and whites are quite attractive here.

There’s a natural layer of grain present throughout, even the directors cut extra shots look like they’ve had a rescan. As RoboCop's memories of his former life as Murphy resurface, only his ex-partner (Nancy Allen, Dressed To Kill) stands beside him to fight against the vicious thugs responsible for his death, as well as a nefarious top-level OCP executive orchestrating the chaos from above. Here, RoboCop’s major motifs are broken down into their musical and thematic parts alongside various anecdotes about the composer. I appreciate that Arrow has taken a page from Criterion’s playbook and started putting booklets in some of their releases — it’s a nice touch that serves as a reminder that once upon a time, the vast majority of thoughts about movies were set down on paper. Heroic cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai) is gunned down in the line of duty, only to be resurrected as RoboCop – a cybernetic mix of spare human parts and Motor City steel, and the latest defense against crime designed by the all-powerful OCP Corporation. We also have interview shows which feature people from an eclectic mix of the entertainment industries.

Like future Verhoeven mixtures of kitsch and art object, RoboCop is broken up into hard, tactile shards of action, from the stabbing of a thug’s throat to the splatter of another melting thug against a windshield. That said, the nuance of the Oscar-nominated track remains evident throughout, from the whirring heel-gears of an upturned ED-209, to the satisfying schink of Robocop's fist-spike. The soundbites are punctuated with advertisements that also barely exaggerate the sorts of promotions of the time.Europe's busiest forums, with independent news and expert reviews, for TVs, Home Cinema, Hi-Fi, Movies, Gaming, Tech and more. The gorgeous 43-page booklet that comes with the 4K steelbook edition includes an in-depth essay by Henry Blyth that further breaks down the differences between the three cuts. if your a fan of the movie like myself and know it too well, yes I think you will notice improvement. What appears to be their first foray into Atmos tracks should be commended for its restraint and faithfulness to the original sound design, although that hardly makes it a demo effort in any respect, and the extras may well be just a port of their earlier Blu-ray set's extras, but it's excellent and comprehensive nonetheless, leaving this the definitive way to own this masterpiece. We will introduce you exclusively to Newpay finance products provided by NewDay Limited under this Introducer Appointed Representative arrangement. The video quality is the best it can be, I feel, as there is still some film grain in there to keep the details and the right amount of dolby smoothing to make it look more crisp. RoboCop was originally mixed for Dolby SR (Spectral Recording), which was a common stereo option for the pre-digital era. The inside has the famous office room scene where ED-209 goes on a shooting spree so this is a nice steelbook presentation.
