Kiss of Darkness is a deliciously dark paranormal romance containing explicit content, graphic violence, profanity, and topics that may be sensitive to some listeners. Ok first I would like to say that the idea behind this story was good and definitely something I reach for when starting a fantasy romance. I just could not read fast enough to satisfy my complete obsession with Xander and Kyra and their journey through this complicated fantasy world created by Taylor.There were only the two of them left: herself and the man with the crossbow-which was aimed at her as he felt in his jacket for an arrow. The author used the wrong word frequently (bumbling instead of bubbling, etc) and it was distracting and took away from the story. Xander has hated black witches for a long time so that, coupled with his attraction to Kyra, makes for a volatile situation every time she is mentioned. Kiss of Darkness by Taylor Aston White is a dark paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lilly Drake and DB West. I am amazed at how Frost is able to keep track of all the different plot threads she has going in all her books.
There were a few times where I had to reread bits and still didn't end up understanding wtf was going on. Wonderfully narrated, at one point I was like how many people are actually doing the narration - what? This Paranormal tale gave us suspense, action, magical universe, and is an enemies to lovers/forced proximity tale. Even though I was a little lost and the "rules" of this magical universe were a little convoluted at times, I found myself unable to stop, and I completely devoured the love/hate relationship between these two.You and your partner George form an uneasy alliance with these two otherworldly officers to apprehend the criminal… But what happens when emotions start to develop between you and your coinvestigators…? Off balance, she fell to the floor and landed next to the knife, one of the vampires had used against her earlier. The fabric stuck to both the old and new blood, the tights intact apart from the ladder across her knee. There were so many different fae/ creatures and breed and I felt sort of confused through most of the story, there’s brief explanations about everything but I didn’t feel like I got a good enough concept of this world to really picture and understand how this world or realm works. Kiss of Darkness is the first book in the Guardians series, preceded by the Alice Skye series that is set in the same universe.
Just the perfect easy read of enemies to lovers, loved the spicy scenes and also the chi within our MC. All of which resulted in an emotional distance from the characters that prevented me from being fully invested in the story.
