A handful of new things and a new batch of machines and tools isn't enough to cover up lots of bugs in the mechanics and physics engine. In a state of stupor induced by gameplay I stopped noticing inbred clones wandering the streets, the sterile town straight from Stephen King’s novels and the hatred for humanity infused into every pixel of this virtual world. While it does feature more drivable vehicles and equipment, it lacks many features like lumber, and frontloaders. Players can also jump out of the vechile and wander around in first person, but since there’s nothing to do but admire the (admittedly reasonably pretty) scenery, that’s a rather pointless function. Machinery from Deutz-Fahr, Pöttinger, and Horsch were added (also featured in the FS 2009 Gold edition).

At a point it becomes too difficult to manage everything at once, and that’s when it becomes necessary to “hire workers”; an action that puts a given tractor on autopilot who will then prepare the field for you while your bank balance slowly drains in “payment.

Of course - Farming Simulator 2013 is being patched up, but is has too few interesting changes and too many old problems.

It includes a new forestry-themed map "Silverrun Forest" as well as 40 new machines (mainly Volvo BM branded), and most of which are for forestry use. Farming Simulator 2008 was released on April 14, 2008 as the first official release of the Farming Simulator game series.

If you can look past the fact it was clearly built on a budget (it looks good, but pop-in is a issue, for instance), and are willing to give it a chance despite its theme, then you may well find this a surprisingly addictive and rich experience. Take on all the challenges of farming life, including working with animals (cows, chicken and sheep), cultivating your land and harvesting crops.

For those that care, Farming Simulator has the license for various real-world manufacturers of farming equipment, and that authenticity helps build a connection to the environment that you’ll be working it – it all feels that much more real for it. The other frills are just a distraction to try and misdirect your attention away from the fact that core gameplay is so limiting. The game takes place in an open world environment, complete with a small town and people wandering around as the day draws on. It seems that the Giant Software team has prepared the field to be cultivated but forgot to plant some seeds.
