About this deal

Electricity by Victoria Glendinning takes the period of electricity developing from one rich home to another--not in whole cities yet--and builds a story around that concept. Though she may now live in Edinburgh, she relives her memories with a sense of warmth and protection. I know this is not something i will learn on construction sites so i will have to read some books in my free time.

In The Invisible Rainbow, Firstenberg traces the history of electricity from the early eighteenth century to the present, making a compelling case that many environmental problems, as well as the major diseases of industrialized civilization—heart disease, diabetes, and cancer—are related to electrical pollution. In Pulleys Pull Their Weight: Simple Machines for Kids, readers solve the problem of a heavy elephant by learning about forces and how we can increase the amount we can lift simply by using a pulley.

I'm looking for a book that will explain how electricity and electronics work to a level that will be useful day to day. Each title will explore the scientific wonders of light, sound, magnets and the motions of pushes and pulls.

The ending was frustrating, as it left me hanging and after having persevered with the book, hoping there would be a grand conclusion at the end that would make the time spent reading it have some sense and context, it didn't. With twenty-two chapters written by leading international experts, this volume represents the most detailed and comprehensive Handbook on electricity markets ever published.

I felt there were undertones in the first 'notebook' of things left unsaid that we would find out about later. Told in an engaging manner the story meanders its way as Charlotte Mortimer navigates her life firstly as daughter, then becoming a wife, then lover / adulterer. Electricity explores how electric currents appear in nature, from static to lightning bolts, and how these natural marvels inspired scientists to conduct experiments and find ways to harness power. Personally, for a more high level and intuitive understanding of electrical concepts, I generally find educational YouTube videos more effective than books.

Art of Electronics and the accompanying lab manual are hands down the best electronics books I've read. introduces readers ages 7-10 to the workings of batteries, simple circuits, conductors and insulators, motors and generators, and magnetism, and the ways we're working toward more Earth-friendly power. The benefits, as well as the limits, of open markets and competition are assessed at the level of underlying principles and with reference to specific cases, including the UK, PJM Interconnection, Texas, Australia, Scandinavia, continental Europe and China. This ia an incredible book but it will be far too much to deal with at first, so I'd strongly suggest starting with the ARRL Handbook. I was wondering if there is a single book that contains all of the general knowledge on the science of electricity, and also the history of all the progress made in the field from its discovery up until now.Glendinning’s descriptions of the period, down to the finest detail of the way they lived, put the reader deep into the story. Using simple explanations and engaging photos, this book encourages children to think about how their senses work, while taking their first steps into scientific discovery.
