As far as the lawyer can establish, the police never traced Williams and excluded him from the inquiry without ever speaking to him.

Little can be determined about the attacker from the nature of the wounds, which depend a great deal on the weapon; and the weapon in this case was never traced. But a month later Miss Tapp was arrested for conspiring to murder Mrs Shaughnessy and immediately withdrew the statements. She had just moved into a new house with her husband and they planned to move back to Ireland to start a family. It was known that both took part in jujitsu, a martial art which teaches fighting with bare hands and knives. A careful reading of the diary entries thereafter would have shown her growing disaffection with him, and sympathy with Alison.An uninformed observer might well have reasoned that in due course Michelle and Lisa would take their place as two of the most notorious murderers in English criminal history.
