About this deal

Julia Donaldson has written some of the world's best-loved children's books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child , which together have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over one hundred languages. This story was accepted by the publisher at the same time as The Gruffalo, and at first they thought they might find a different illustrator for it. This personal touch reflects the book's emphasis on the connections between families and the universal emotions experienced by children and their caregivers.

I enjoyed drawing all the different kinds of animals and the jungle vegetation - which I kind of made up (unlike Henry Rousseau when he did his jungle paintings, who went to the botanical gardens). This is a lovely rhyming story which our daughter has already memorised the 'no, no, no butterfly line from! Collaborating with illustrator Axel Scheffler, she has created numerous beloved children's books, including the immensely successful "The Gruffalo" series.

This edition features the classic story with a stunning, redesigned cover and beautiful finish, making it a must-have addition to the bookshelves of all Donaldson and Scheffler fans - big and small! I would say this is better for a slightly younger audience - my son loves it from 1 and still loves it at 2. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Reuniting with her mother fills the young monkey's heart with joy, ending her journey of discovery and separation.

This book is a little different from all the other books with Julia as all the pictures are double spreads. The butterfly's suggestions include a diverse array of creatures such as an elephant, a snake, a spider, a parrot, a frog, and a bat. Her other books include Room on the Broom, Stick Man and Zog, illustrated by Axel Scheffle r, The Hospital Dog , illustrated by Sara Ogilvie and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures, illustrated by Lydia Monks. Axel Scheffler's distinctive illustrations bring the characters and settings of "Monkey Puzzle" to life.
