About this deal

The mix is also more cohesive and kind of plays together rather than the more precisely separated presentation of 4XR. It does have more treble energy than the ER2SE, but it’s not bright, exactly, nor is it much more fatiguing. With the best-in-class features, high-end performance, and superior build quality, the Etymotic ER2 Earphones deliver an uncompromised music listening experience.

Neither is going to be at all appropriate for bassheads – generally speaking, I’d say true bassheads should probably steer clear of Etymotic. Funny but following the Dusk small peaks in 6-10 region helped a bit, clarity is better and instrument separation slightly improved. These earphones/IEMs allow you to listen to your favourite track or block out the world for a focused podcast listening experience. ER2SE is a great choice for audio creators and musicians on a budget, who require a precise and neutral sound reproductio The Etymotics have always been somewhat known for having a flat soundstage that doesn’t offer great depth or a sense of space. It's not so much offensive as it is just mildly unnatural sounding, and it's thankfully leagues off from being harsh save for on really bad recordings. Doing so not only secures the components together but also prevents listeners from mixing and matching cables and housings.

emphasis that really stuck out when coming from my full sized headphones, even those with a 3k bump like my modded HD580. Quite often you will also find Hi-Fi equipment offering direct connectivity to devices with Android and iOS to simplify the connectivity process. It’s not that they wouldn’t stay in my ear – they certainly did – but I was bothered by them, and I felt uncomfortable. I was using the triple flange tips on the Ety IEMs, and using wide bore silicon tips on the Blessing 2, and used a narrow bore silicon tip for the Legacy 3. It can deliver a much more high-fidelity performance than any active noise-canceling headphone I’ve ever heard, while still boasting sufficient isolation to block out the drone of an airplane or train.Unforgiving and will slap you with the reality that a soundstage in an iem is all made up inside your head. They lack viscerality and dance-ability but textures throughout the range are perfectly satisfactory for a daily driver and macrodetail is actually quite grand save for those odds and ends that inexplicably get buried. In sharp contrast to the tonal ‘flavour-of-the-month-club’ approach we so often encounter these days, Etymotic was, is, and probably ever shall be an accuracy-first earphone maker. I think those who’ve tried and enjoyed the ER2SE’s sound will likely want to step up to the ER4SR at some point in their lives – the improvement is certainly not negligible.

Imaging directionality is pretty excellent and hard-panned items seem exaggeratedly so, but it's not as excessively distinct between left-center-right as on the HiFiMAN HE4XX; the headstage tapestry remains very much cohesive, albeit compact. So even if you find them uncomfortable at first, I’d recommend sticking with it for at least a few days. I suspect this is because the wax that was originally stuck deep in my ear has been pushed aside or dragged out; or perhaps it’s simply because I’ve gotten used to it. Accessories include a set of protective filters and a filter removal tool, a shirt clip, one set of compressible foam and two sets of 3-flange silicone ear tips (sizes M and L), a detachable four-foot signal cable and a compact zipper-closure storage pouch. These earphones are perfectly in tune with the newest innovations in music players that support a 3.

Similarly, listen to Brad Mehldau’s original soundtrack for the Yvan Attal film Mon chien Stupide [My Melody, 16/44. It appears like each drum beat and thump take their own sweet time in delivering the meaty-impact before moving to the next beat. To appreciate what I mean, try listening to the track ‘Goodjinns’ from Renaud Garcia-Fons’ Oriental Bass [Enja Records, 16/44.To help us get a better understanding of the mean and standard deviation of the human ear response and how that correlates with existing ear simulators. Not saying this is necessarily true of Etymōtic by the way since I've not get gotten to play with their filters, just armchair supposing based on what meager time I've spent playing with modding headphones. The solution turns out be a shorter and less sharply tapered new dual-flange ear-tip design from Etymotic, which worked a charm for me, providing ease of insertion, an excellent seal and long term comfort.
